The family of a 70-year-old woman who died after riding the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida has hired attorney Ben Crump to help them understand what happened and seek answers about her death.
The Incident
On November 25, 2025, Ma de La Luz Mejia Rosas became unwell while riding the “Revenge of the Mummy” roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida. According to a report from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, she was transported to a hospital but sadly passed away on December 9, 2025.

The Orange County Medical Examiner’s report stated that Rosas died from a burst aneurysm and showed no signs of injury from the ride. The report, released in January 2026, indicated his death wasn’t caused by any physical trauma.
I’ve been following the developments in the recent amusement park incident, and the family of the victim, Rosas, has retained attorney Ben Crump. They’re not necessarily focused on a lawsuit right now, but on getting answers. They want full transparency from the park regarding everything leading up to the tragedy, what happened during the ride itself, and the aftermath. Specifically, they’re requesting detailed information about how the ride was operated, the safety checks in place, its maintenance records, and any previous incidents that might shed light on what went wrong. It’s a push for accountability and understanding, and they feel getting all the facts out in the open is the first step.
Universal Orlando Resort has only released standard safety reports regarding the recent death and has not provided further details. They are also declining to discuss any ongoing legal investigations related to the incident.
Background on the Ride
Revenge of the Mummy is a fast-paced indoor roller coaster that opened at Universal Studios Florida in 2004. Safety information consistently highlights its quick acceleration, abrupt stops, and use of special effects. The ride reaches speeds of up to 40 mph and features three separate launches. People with certain health concerns, such as heart problems, high blood pressure, or those sensitive to motion or flashing lights, should avoid riding.
Florida law requires large theme parks, such as Universal, to report significant injuries and deaths to the state. However, these parks aren’t subject to routine, independent safety checks. Instead, they monitor safety themselves by tracking incidents and conducting their own maintenance.

I’ve been following the news about Universal Orlando pretty closely, and it’s interesting to see they’re sticking with the same legal counsel, Crump, after another tragic incident. Back in September of 2025, a 32-year-old named Kevin Rodriguez Zavala died while riding the Stardust Racers coaster at their new Epic Universe park. What’s particularly notable is that Crump also represented Zavala’s family, and they reached a settlement with Universal – though the details of that agreement haven’t been made public. It definitely raises eyebrows to see them keep the same lawyer after handling this case.
Attorney Crump is well-known for representing families in important civil rights and wrongful death cases. His involvement suggests the family intends to carefully investigate the circumstances surrounding Rosas’s death, though they hadn’t filed a lawsuit as of late January 2026.
According to her lawyer, Rosas was at the park with her family – including her children and grandchildren – when the incident happened. Her family hopes that by reviewing more records and hearing from witnesses, they can get answers about what happened and help improve safety at theme parks.
