Apple TV’s Overlooked Psychological Drama Returns After Three Years With Impressive RT Score

Season 2 of Drops of God is receiving positive reviews. This Japanese-French-American series is adapted from the popular manga of the same name and centers around a group competing to inherit a valuable estate—and its impressive wine cellar.

The first season of Drops of God came out in 2023 and was highly praised by critics. It achieved a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won the International Emmy Award for Drama Series in 2024. Apple TV+ renewed the series for a second season in May 2024, which premiered on January 21, 2026.

After only a few days of release, season 2 of Drops of God now has an official score on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, based on seven critic reviews, the show has an impressive 86% average, bringing its overall score to 93%. This score may change as more reviews come in.

Some critics have pointed out significant changes in the new season’s tone, suggesting it might not satisfy everyone – this tonal shift is actually the reason the season received its first negative review. Despite this, most individual reviews for season 2 are just as positive as those for season 1. Out of the three reviews that used a five-point scale, one gave it a four and another a five.

Whether Drops of God will get another season is still uncertain. Its viewership numbers aren’t as high as those of Apple TV+’s biggest hits, like the sci-fi show Severance, the monster series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and the award-winning Pluribus.

Although season 2 hasn’t received quite the same high ratings as the first season – which made Drops of God one of 2023’s best-reviewed TV shows – a third season is still possible if viewers love it as much as critics do right now.

Beyond positive reviews attracting viewers, Drops of God was made with a much smaller budget than Apple TV+’s typical science fiction shows. This means it doesn’t need to be as hugely popular to be considered successful.
