Stargate SG-1 Lands on Netflix Ahead of Revival

Fans of the original sci-fi series will be excited to hear that a new version was announced for 2025. While the cast hasn’t been revealed yet, the beloved 1997 show Stargate SG-1, starring Richard Dean Anderson as Colonel Jack O’Neill, will soon be available to stream on Prime Video starting in February.

Beginning February 15th, all ten seasons of Stargate SG-1 will be available to stream. This sci-fi series, produced by MGM Television, continues the story from the 1994 Stargate movie, focusing on the adventures of the main team at Stargate Command.

Originally debuting on Showtime in 1997, Stargate SG-1 later moved to SyFy (formerly the Sci Fi Channel) in June 2002 and concluded its run with a finale on Sky1 in March 2007. Throughout its ten seasons, the show received nine Primetime Emmy Award nominations – a significant accomplishment for a science fiction series. The success of Stargate SG-1 led to several spin-offs, including the animated series Stargate Infinity, the live-action series Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Origins, and two direct-to-DVD movies: Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.

A New Stargate Series Was Confirmed Late Last Year

You can currently watch Stargate SG-1 on Netflix to prepare for the upcoming reboot on Prime Video. Prime Video announced in November 2025 that a new version of the series is in development. The Stargate franchise is owned by MGM, which was purchased by Amazon in 2022.

Martin Gero is creating a new Stargate series for Amazon MGM Studios, simply titled Stargate. He will also be the showrunner. Gero has a history with the Stargate franchise, having written for and directed episodes of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe. He also worked on the Quantum Leap reboot for NBC.

Gero began his television career twenty years ago as a story editor on Stargate: Atlantis. He worked on all three Stargate series for five years, and credits the franchise with teaching him everything he knows about television production – something he says is now a core part of his skillset.

Gero shared his excitement about leading the Stargate franchise into the future with Amazon MGM Studios. He dedicated the continuation of the series to longtime fans who have supported it through conventions, rewatching old episodes, and their continued belief in the show, while also promising a fantastic experience for new viewers.

Details about the story of the new Stargate series are currently secret, but it’s being described as a fresh and exciting direction for the franchise.

Stargate SG-1 will hit Netflix on Feb. 15.
