As a movie buff, I always pay attention when someone like Jennifer Aniston champions a film! She’s best known for her TV work – things like The Morning Show and, of course, Friends – but she recently shared a fantastic movie recommendation as the Academy Award nominations were announced. She’s really urging everyone to check out Hamnet right away, and honestly, with the Oscars coming up in 2026, it’s perfect timing! Whether you’re planning to watch a bunch of the nominated films before the show or just want a solid movie suggestion from a talented actress, I’m definitely adding Hamnet to my list thanks to Jennifer!
Of course, she’s not the only one, as Hamnet has scooped up no fewer than eight Academy Award nominations, and the odds are quite good for a trophy in at least one category. Check out Jennifer Aniston’s pitch for everybody to see the film, via Instagram Story:

I won’t give away any details of the novel Hamnet for those who haven’t read it yet, especially after hearing the recent recommendation from an actress who was thinking about changing her hair color. However, I want to warn everyone that this film about William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes Hathaway, dealing with grief isn’t filled with lighthearted moments like you might see on Jennifer Aniston’s Instagram. It’s worth looking up the behind-the-scenes video of the cast dancing to Rihanna for a bit of fun, though! It’s amusing to think that Aniston, like many others, might have started watching movies after the Oscar nominations came out.
As a huge movie fan, I’ve been following awards season closely! With the Oscars coming up, it’s interesting to see who’s already been recognized. The Critics Choice Awards kicked things off this year, and Hamnet really led the pack with eleven nominations – Jessie Buckley even took home the Best Actress award! Then came the Golden Globes, where Hamnet continued to impress, earning six nominations and winning two big prizes: Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Actress in a Drama. It’s exciting to see which films will continue to shine at the Academy Awards!
Paul Mescal received nominations for his acting performance at both the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, but surprisingly wasn’t nominated for an Academy Award. His co-star, Jessie Buckley, spoke out about the omission, calling his performance “extraordinary” and describing him as a favorite of hers.
Despite the male lead not receiving a nomination, Jessie Buckley is a strong contender for the Best Actress Oscar, having already won at the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes. While her film, Hamnet, won a Golden Globe for Best Picture, it faces tough competition at the Academy Awards, where many films are nominated in that category. Meanwhile, Sinners made history with an unprecedented 16 nominations this year.
If you’re taking Jennifer Aniston’s recommendation to read Hamnet before the Oscars, you have until Sunday, March 15th. Having won awards for her role in Friends, Aniston is familiar with high-quality, award-winning shows and films.
