Hawkeye Season 2’s Fate Seemingly Revealed 3 Months After Jeremy Renner’s MCU Update

Fans have been eagerly awaiting news about a second season of one of Marvel’s most popular TV shows, and now it seems we finally have a clear answer.

Hawkeye is a Marvel series that premiered on Disney+ in late 2021. With a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s the first Marvel Cinematic Universe story set during the holidays. The show follows Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner), as he attempts to solve a new problem in New York City and make it home for Christmas. Along the way, he unexpectedly takes on Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) as a protégé, training her to become a superhero.

According to a recent interview with The Direct, Wonder Man showrunner Andrew Guest – who also worked on Hawkeye – has indicated that a second season of Hawkeye is unlikely to happen. Guest explained that while they discussed potential storylines for Hawkeye season 2, the project was ultimately shelved due to scheduling conflicts and the complexities of coordinating everything at Marvel.

We definitely considered ideas for a second season of Hawkeye, exploring what it could look like. Ultimately, it just didn’t align with Marvel’s plans and scheduling. But I really enjoyed working on the show, and I think Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld have great chemistry – I’d love to see them team up again.

After initially declining what he called a low offer to return to his famous role in May 2025, Jeremy Renner later expressed interest in continuing the story. By October, he seemed optimistic about a second season, telling the Bingeworthy podcast that he believed he’d be healthy enough to participate and that they were actively working towards making it happen. He predicted, “It’s gonna be great.”

In 2023, Jeremy Renner was seriously injured in a snowplow accident, breaking 38 bones. Despite the severity of his injuries, he was determined to regain his fitness and return to physically challenging roles. His co-star, Hailee Steinfeld, appeared in the 2023 film The Marvels and may appear in future Avengers movies alongside other potential Young Avengers members, though her involvement hasn’t been officially confirmed.

Since 2021, several actors from Hawkeye have returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Alaqua Cox starred in her own series, Echo, reprising her role as Maya Lopez. Florence Pugh, who first appeared as Yelena Belova in Black Widow, returned in Thunderbolts. Pugh is the only one of these actors currently confirmed to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in December 2026.

Hawkeye brings back Linda Cardellini as Laura Barton and Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, in addition to other returning MCU actors.

Vincent D’Onofrio returns as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, now officially recognized as part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe storyline. The series was created by Jonathan Igla, who has written for Mad Men and produced Bridgerton.

It’s always tricky to predict what’s next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with so many projects, actors, and secrets. However, recent comments suggest that there are currently no plans for a second season of Hawkeye, making its return unlikely.
