Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Director Explained Why It Was Important For The New Movie To Feel ‘Different’ From The ‘Home’ Trilogy

Even though Spider-Man: No Way Home from 2021 successfully wrapped up the story that started with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, Tom Holland will return as Peter Parker. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release in 2026, and Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will be directing. While the new movie continues the story after No Way Home, Cretton explained that he wanted Brand New Day to feel fresh and distinct from previous Spider-Man films.

Besides directing Shang-Chi and working on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Destin Daniel Cretton also co-created the Disney+ series Wonder Man, which will begin streaming next week and is slated for release in 2026. In an interview with Comicbook about the show, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, Cretton shared that his aim to bring a fresh take to Wonder Man echoed his approach with Brand New Day.

When I joined the project, the entire creative team was eager to create something fresh and unique. While it’s still the Spider-Man fans know and love, this story marks a new phase in his journey, and I found that change in direction incredibly appealing. It was a truly rewarding experience to work on something that felt so different.

Spider-Man: No Way Home dramatically changed Peter Parker’s life as he moved forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
