Every Horror Fan Should Binge Watch ‘Slasher’

If you love horror, you’re always looking for a new series to watch, and Slasher is a surprisingly good one that doesn’t get enough attention. It can be hard to find truly scary TV shows when you’re settling in for a spooky night. So many horror shows disappoint with weak characters, predictable jump scares, or stories that are more silly than frightening.

2025 brought some excellent sci-fi and horror shows, like HBO Max’s It: Welcome to Derry and Alien: Earth. But what do you watch after you’ve finished all the must-see series, including the five impressive shows by Mike Flanagan on Netflix? If you’ve seen every iteration of Pennywise scaring the Losers Club and are eagerly awaiting Season 2 of Alien: Earth, the series Slasher offers multiple seasons that any horror enthusiast is sure to love.

Why ‘Slasher’ Is an Exciting and Underrated Horror Series

Chiller

As a huge horror fan, I’ve been following Slasher for years! It’s got five full seasons, plus a special miniseries, and honestly, each installment has been really compelling. It originally started on Chiller with the first season, The Executioner, back in 2016. Then Netflix picked it up in 2017 and aired seasons two (Guilty Party) and three (Solstice). After that, Shudder became the home for seasons four (Flesh & Blood) and five (Ripper). And just recently, in June 2025, they released a miniseries called Hell Motel on Shudder – definitely worth checking out if you’re into this kind of thing!

Let’s be honest: Slasher isn’t high art, and it’s not usually mentioned among the best horror anthology series. It doesn’t have the same level of storytelling as Mike Flanagan’s shows. But that’s okay, because it’s genuinely enjoyable because it’s a bit cheesy! It still delivers creepy and believable stories with compelling characters. Unlike some horror shows that rely on illogical twists to explain events, each season of Slasher focuses on a memorable serial killer, and – crucially – their motivations are clearly explained by the end of the season.

While the series definitely features plenty of violence, it also offers good character development, especially in the first season of Slasher. The story is a classic horror setup: Sarah Bennett (played by Katie McGrath) returns to her hometown with her husband, Dylan (Brandon Jay McLaren), years after her parents were tragically murdered. You quickly become invested in Sarah’s journey as a ‘final girl’ and hope she can find peace in her life and marriage. Although the season includes a typical masked killer and surprising twists, it also explores a powerful question: can a whole town ever truly recover from a horrific crime?

As a horror fan, I was really pleased that the later seasons of Slasher didn’t disappoint after that amazing first season. Season 2 cleverly uses the summer camp setup, but with a really unsettling twist – a group of friends returning in the winter, which just amps up the creepiness. Season 3, with a killer loose in an apartment building, was fantastic because it genuinely kept me guessing. But honestly, Season 4 might be the best yet. It’s all about a family fighting over an inheritance, and it gets really bloody. Plus, it stars the legendary David Cronenberg, which is a huge win for body horror fans like me!

Instead of repeating old ideas, the show Slasher continues to be inventive, even in its fifth season, which is set in 19th-century Toronto. While it might appear to be part of Slasher, Hell Motel is actually a standalone miniseries that delves into the popular horror theme of true-crime enthusiasts facing a genuine killer.

While Slasher might not completely redefine the horror genre or scare even the most seasoned fans senseless, it still delivers plenty of creepy moments. The show features compelling characters facing relatable struggles as they try to survive a terrifying attack.
