‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Is Now Streaming on Netflix and You Can’t Miss It

If you didn’t catch the crime drama Rizzoli & Isles when it was on TV in the 2010s, now’s a great time to check it out. That decade produced a lot of popular shows that people still talk about today, like the thrilling 2016 debut of Stranger Things. Even though opinions on the final season of Stranger Things are mixed, discovering the Upside Down was a truly memorable experience. Viewers were also captivated by the intricate world of clones in Orphan Black, and everyone became invested in the grand scope of Game of Thrones – even if some of the later plot points were frustrating.

I’ve been thinking about shows from the 2010s lately, and there are so many great ones we’ve kind of forgotten about! One that really stands out to me is Rizzoli & Isles. It’s based on the fantastic novels by Tess Gerritsen, and honestly, it deserves a lot more attention than it gets. I wish more people were still talking about it!

Why You Should Watch the Underrated Crime Thriller ‘Rizzoli & Isles’

TNT

All seven seasons of Rizzoli & Isles are now available on Netflix, having been added on January 20, 2026. The show originally ran on TNT from 2010 to 2016 and followed the close friendship of Jane Rizzoli, a homicide detective played by Angie Harmon, and Maura Isles, the Chief Medical Examiner, played by Sasha Alexander, as they solved crimes in Boston. Netflix continues to expand its selection of thrillers, including original series like The Beast in Me and His & Hers, and regularly adds popular shows from the past – Rizzoli & Isles is a particularly welcome addition.

Like many crime thrillers, this series explores dark and unusual cases, with each episode typically revolving around a shocking investigation led by Maura and Jane. The first season kicks off with a particularly disturbing case involving a potentially deadly exorcism, and things only escalate from there. Season two features two especially gruesome deaths – a mother connected to the competitive dance world and a woman tragically burned as a witch. Later seasons include memorable episodes centered around unsettling events at a zombie convention and a villain disguised as a clown. Although some of these cases might sound a little outlandish, they remain deeply affecting and frightening.

While Rizzoli & Isles is generally an enjoyable show, it also tackles some serious and disturbing themes. A key example is the multi-episode arc featuring serial killer Charles Hoyt (Michael Massee). This storyline isn’t just dramatic; it’s important because it delves into Jane’s past and reveals how a traumatic experience with Charles has deeply affected her life.

Though it wasn’t necessarily a revolutionary crime drama, Rizzoli & Isles really excelled at showing a heartfelt and believable connection between two women. The close friendship between Maura and Jane is enjoyable to watch as they solve each case. Despite dealing with dark and disturbing crimes, the show highlights the genuine respect and affection they have for one another, making it relatable. Plus, the characters’ unique personalities and the show’s humorous moments provide a welcome balance to the heavier storylines.
