The popular Supernatural comic series from Dynamite continues to build on the show’s established world with each new issue, and this week’s Supernatural #4 is no exception. Like the previous installment, this issue follows a self-contained story reminiscent of the early seasons of the Supernatural TV show – specifically, the “Monster of the Week” format from Season 1, which is when the comic is set.
The latest issue of Supernatural ended with Dean and Sam stuck in a temporary car, not their beloved Impala. This sets up a unique two-part story, which will also feature the show’s classic “Monster of the Week” format, as you can see in the preview.

The story starts with a familiar setup, much like previous issues in this series. We meet a young girl battling cancer who finds escape in reading. When her local library faces closure, a librarian presents her with a strange and unexpected opportunity.
The librarian tells the young woman she might be able to read forever, a suggestion the sick woman welcomes. However, the audience understands this is a deal with a demon – confirmed by artwork depicting the librarian as one. Soon after, the woman is found dead in the library, revealing this happens frequently.
Okay, so that crazy cliffhanger from the last issue? It totally pays off! Sam and Dean are stuck in their Impala, speeding down the highway at 70 miles an hour with the doors locked! It’s intense. Sam quickly realizes the car could just crash them if it wanted to, but he thinks it’s actually leading them to trouble, not just trying to kill them. Dean’s not buying it though – he thinks the car is keeping them alive for some reason, maybe to use them in a really messed up way, like turning them into werewolves or something, or maybe even draining their blood for a spell. It’s seriously creepy!
To find out which brother is correct, you’ll have to pick up a copy of Supernatural #4 tomorrow!
