My KPop Demon Hunters Fan Of A Daughter Is Fired Up About The Oscars, But Now I Need To Know If HUNTR/X Is Performing

My daughter is completely hooked on KPop Demon Hunters. Out of all the movies we watched together last year, this amazing animated film on Netflix – packed with good lessons, interesting characters, and incredibly catchy songs – was the one she wanted to see over and over again (I’ve honestly lost track of how many times!). It’s become her absolute favorite, and she now loves the movie’s band, HUNTR/X (pronounced Huntrix), and even starts her day singing their song, “Golden.”

I recently told my daughter she might get to see HUNTR/X perform her favorite song of 2025, because the movie KPop Demon Hunters is expected to be nominated for several Academy Awards, including one for the song “Golden.” She was thrilled when I explained what the Oscars are! Now I’m hoping we both get to go to the ceremony in March and that this will be a special moment for her.

Watching KPop Demon Hunters Win Best Original Song At The Golden Globes With My Daughter Was Magical

It all began when I let my daughter stay up late to watch the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, hoping to see KPop Demon Hunters win – and they did! They took home awards for both Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song. Even though I regretted keeping her up so late for a few days, sharing that exciting moment with her was totally worth it.

I’ll never forget the look on my daughter’s face when “Golden” won Best Song. She instantly went from looking tired to absolutely thrilled, and she started singing the chorus right there on the couch. It was a perfect reminder of how much joy my kids get from movies, and a truly golden moment.

She Lost Her Mind When She Found Out There’s A Chance HUNTR/X Could Perform At The Oscars

I mentioned that HUNTR/X might perform at the Academy Awards, and her first reaction was to ask what the Academy Awards even were! After I explained that KPop Demon Hunters was almost guaranteed to win several awards and that HUNTR/X could perform their song “Golden,” she got incredibly excited – like jumping on the couch, searching for her Rumi costume, and singing the song all over again. Now I’m really hoping to find out if they’re actually scheduled to perform.

My daughter loves listening to “Golden” – it’s playing on our smart speakers all the time, whether it’s before or after school, or whenever we’re in the car. I really hope Huntrix gets to perform at the Oscars, because my daughter would be absolutely thrilled! I’m so excited about the possibility of being there with her.

Oscar Nominations Aren’t Out Yet, But KPop Demon Hunters’ Chances Are Golden

As of today, the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards are still to come. However, it seems very likely that KPop Demon Hunters will be among them when they’re announced on January 22, 2026. The film already won a Golden Globe, its song has been streamed over 1.3 billion times on Spotify, and it’s been featured in many prominent events like Saturday Night Live and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade over the last six months.

This song is almost guaranteed an Oscar nomination – the only way it wouldn’t get one is if the Academy completely removed the category, which isn’t going to happen. It’s been over a decade since a movie song was this popular; the last time was with “Let It Go” from Frozen. As many remember, Frozen won Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, and I expect the same to happen this March.

The Academy Awards Eliminated Performances In 2025, But I Need Them To Bring Them Back

The Academy Awards, or Oscars, are always evolving, but a significant change happened last year. For the 97th Oscars, they decided not to include full performances of the songs nominated for Best Original Song. While a beautiful medley from Wicked opened the show, the other nominated songs weren’t given a chance to be performed.

I really hope my daughter and I aren’t disappointed when the Oscars happen in March! We’re big fans and would be thrilled if the nominated artists – HUNTR/X, Nine Inch Nails, and Miley Cyrus – all got to perform their songs from the movies KPop Demon Hunters, Tron: Ares, and Avatar: Fire and Ash. We’d be happy even if the K-pop singers just did a medley of their hits, “Golden,” “How It’s Done,” and “Takedown,” but we think all the nominated songs deserve a moment in the spotlight.

A Colleague Pointed Out This Could Be A ‘Let It Go’ Moment, And They’re Not Wrong

I was telling some coworkers about my daughter’s love for the group KPop Demon Hunters and how thrilled I was at the idea of them performing at the Oscars. One of them pointed out it would be similar to when “Let It Go” was performed in 2014, and I think they’re right – it could be a really big moment like that. While the performance of “Defying Gravity” by the Wicked cast last year was great, this feels like it could be even bigger.

I didn’t have children myself when Idina Menzel sang the popular song from Frozen at the Oscars in 2014, but I clearly remember how excited all the kids around me – my nieces, nephews, and friends’ children – were about it. The song was already a huge success, but the performance took it to another level. While “Golden” has been incredibly popular recently, a performance on a major platform like the Oscars could make it even more of a phenomenon, to be honest.

It remains to be seen if HUNTR/X will perform “Golden” at the Oscars, but I definitely plan to watch the 98th Academy Awards live with my daughter on March 15th, thanks to my Hulu subscription!
