A new report suggests that two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most famous couples might face off in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. This potential conflict could dramatically change their relationships and add an unexpected twist to the story.
Steve Rogers to fight a Peggy Carter variant in Avengers: Doomsday
There’s talk that Steve Rogers and a version of Peggy Carter will face off in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. According to insider MyTimeToShineHello, the film will include a conflict between the two characters.
On January 19, 2026, they followed up with a post titled “Good Steve vs Evil Peggy.” This hints at a showdown between the heroic Steve Rogers and a version of Peggy Carter who might be his enemy.
Rumors have been circulating that Hayley Atwell might play different versions of her character, Peggy Carter, in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. A user on social media claimed last month that Atwell would be portraying multiple Peggys. However, Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed Atwell’s participation or the existence of variant versions of Peggy Carter in the film.
I’m so excited about this new film! I absolutely loved Captain Carter when she appeared in What If…?, and I was heartbroken when Scarlet Witch defeated her in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I’m really hoping this movie gives her a bigger story. It would also be amazing to see the Peggy Carter who got to live a full life with Steve Rogers after Endgame – that reunion was everything, and I’d love to see more of their story!
The idea of a villainous version of Peggy Carter fits with talk that several characters enhanced with the super-soldier serum could join forces – possibly including Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, and Alexei Shostakov. Some fans also think this evil Peggy might team up with Doctor Doom, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
So, I was reading interviews with Hayley Atwell about the possibility of a Captain Carter spin-off, and it’s hilarious – apparently, there were rumors flying around on Reddit about a project called ‘Doomsday’! She seemed genuinely surprised when Collider brought it up, asking who was even starting those rumors. But then, when Den of Geek asked her about it, she totally lit up! She said she’d love to explore Captain Carter more, and that the character really deserves a chance to shine – she feels like Carter hasn’t gotten enough screen time yet.
Marvel will release Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.
