The new Star Wars movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is essentially a longer version of an episode from the Disney+ show. However, because of the vast Star Wars universe and the time period the series takes place in, many familiar characters could potentially make an appearance when the film comes out on May 22, 2026. Although the story currently seems fairly contained, the possibilities are wide open.
Besides the main characters, Steven Blum is confirmed to return as Zeb Orrelios, a character he’s voiced throughout Star Wars: Rebels and appeared in live-action in The Mandalorian Season 2. While it’s unknown how big Zeb’s role will be in the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, it’s likely other beloved characters from the Star Wars universe will also make an appearance. We’ll have to wait and see which fan favorites show up in the story set after Return of the Jedi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Lucasfilm
The events of The Mandalorian take place only a few years after the original Star Wars trilogy concluded. Even though Obi-Wan Kenobi died in A New Hope, he continued to appear as a Force Ghost in the subsequent films, including a final appearance in Return of the Jedi. Since there’s no definitive proof that a Force Ghost’s presence ever fades, a cameo by Obi-Wan in a future installment is certainly possible. The question then becomes who would play him. Ewan McGregor might be too young for the role, and recreating Guinness with CGI, similar to how Peter Cushing’s Tarkin was brought back in Rogue One, could be controversial.
Yoda, as portrayed by Frank Oz, is one of the original characters who could potentially appear as a Force Ghost.

Luke Skywalker

LucasFilm
Mark Hamill first returned as Luke Skywalker in recent years with a cameo in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, and he was a key part of The Book of Boba Fett as well. While technology allowed Hamill to play the younger version of Luke, he needed help because of his age. Given that The Mandalorian brought Luke back after the divisive sequel trilogy, it would make sense to see him appear in the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu series.

Boba Fett

Disney+
Season 2 of The Mandalorian established a strong bond between Din Djarin and Boba Fett, a connection that continued in the Book of Boba Fett series. Although the series damaged Boba Fett’s reputation, he survived. To win fans back, a future movie teaming him up with Din Djarin would be a smart move.
4
Han Solo & Chewbacca

20th Century Studios
Although Han Solo seemingly died in The Force Awakens (2015), the new movie will be set earlier in the timeline, before those events. This means we’ll see both Han and Chewbacca alive and shortly after their win against the Empire. Bringing Chewbacca to life is relatively easy with different actors, but recreating Han Solo is more challenging. They could use technology similar to how Luke Skywalker appeared in The Mandalorian, or potentially bring back Alden Ehrenreich, who played Han in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
3
Ahsoka Tano

Disney+
Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano followed a similar comeback path as Boba Fett. Like Boba, who reappeared in The Mandalorian and then got his own series, Ahsoka also returned to the spotlight. While originally voiced by Ashley Eckstein in The Clone Wars, Ahsoka’s connection to Din Djarin and Grogu isn’t as direct as Boba’s, it does exist. It’s logical to expect her in a future Star Wars movie, but it’s also possible her story will continue within the upcoming second season of Ahsoka.
2
Anakin Skywalker

20th Century Fox
Dave Filoni, the writer and director of The Mandalorian and Grogu, featured Hayden Christensen’s Star Wars character prominently in Season 1 of Ahsoka. As the new president of Lucasfilm, Filoni clearly enjoys working with the character of Anakin Skywalker, who found redemption. Having left behind the identity of Darth Vader at the end of his life, Anakin now appears as a Force Ghost, following in the footsteps of his own master. While it would be difficult to include Anakin in a future movie without also featuring Ahsoka, Christensen’s return to Star Wars films remains a possibility in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
1
Princess Leia Organa

20th Century Studios
Carrie Fisher’s untimely death during the making of the latest Star Wars films complicated what was already a challenging return to the franchise, resulting in a somewhat fragmented story. While Fisher can’t reappear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, her character, Leia, remains important to the story during the time the new movie is set. We might even see her undergoing Jedi training, which she later stopped. Disney has successfully used a younger version of Leia in live-action without needing a new actress, though it’s unclear if her character will be essential to the plot of The Mandalorian and Grogu at this point in the Star Wars saga.
