Grant Gustin recently discussed the possibility of returning as The Flash, especially with the latest news about the DC Universe. For ten years, Gustin has been well-known for portraying Barry Allen in live-action, leading the popular nine-season TV show, which was a major part of the Arrowverse.
Fans were upset when Grant Gustin, who played The Flash on the TV series, didn’t make a cameo in the movie The Flash, which was already a controversial release. Since James Gunn became head of DC Studios, people have been hoping Gustin would reprise his role as The Flash in the new DC Universe. Lately, those rumors have been gaining traction.
Grant Gustin recently shared on Instagram that he didn’t actually dye his hair blonde for his role as The Flash, according to a post by kylehenryallen on X (formerly Twitter).
So, the internet went wild with photos of Grant Gustin sporting long blonde hair, and everyone immediately assumed it was a hint about a new superhero role. But according to Gustin himself, this look is for a completely different project, something not related to The Flash. However, and this is the important part for all us Flash fans, he’s made it very clear he’d jump at the chance to reprise his role as Barry Allen. He said he’ll ‘always welcome the opportunity’ – and honestly, who can blame him? I, for one, would love to see him back in the suit.
Grant Gustin’s name is back in the conversation after James Gunn addressed rumors about his potential return to the DC Universe. A fan jokingly warned Gunn that fans would be upset if Gustin, known for playing The Flash in the Arrowverse, wasn’t included. Gunn dismissed the idea of any actual riots, but emphasized his admiration for Gustin, stating simply, “Love Grant by the way.”
James Gunn recently reiterated his past statements, expressing continued interest in working with Grant Gustin. In a comment on March 7, 2024, Gunn stated he’d be thrilled to collaborate with Gustin in the future. However, DC Studios hasn’t announced any plans for The Flash or a potential role for Gustin within the DC Universe yet.
Rumors about Grant Gustin returning as The Flash have been building, especially after news surfaced about a new DC Universe project. This project, a Superman spinoff series focusing on Jimmy Olsen, will feature Gorilla Grodd – a villain famously known from The Flash – as its primary antagonist in the first season. Because Grodd will be part of the show, many believe there’s a possibility The Flash himself could make an appearance.
Currently, Grant Gustin’s final portrayal of Barry Allen is in the series finale of The Flash, which aired on May 24, 2023, and was titled “A New World, Part Four.” Plans for a tenth season of The Flash—one that would have reunited the Arrowverse’s Justice League—were canceled. Despite this, there’s a possibility Gustin could work with the team again in the upcoming DC Universe.
