James Cameron is known for being direct, and he’s tired of constantly being asked if Jack could have survived the Titanic. It seems the debate over the ending of his 1997 film has finally gotten under his skin.
While appearing on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter Podcast, director James Cameron noticed people were once again debating whether Jack and Rose could have both survived the sinking if they’d fully utilized the available raft space. He addressed the question by saying:
Honestly, I’m so tired of everyone asking about the door – or, you know, the raft! We actually did a whole experiment to figure out if Jack could have survived, or if both he and Rose could have, and it’s frustrating because people don’t even listen when I explain what we found. Basically, if Jack had been some kind of hypothermia expert – knowing all the science we know now about surviving cold water back in 1912 – and had a whole lot of luck, then maybe, just maybe, he could have lived. It’s a really specific set of circumstances, but it’s theoretically possible.
So, the answer is no, it wasn’t possible. There’s simply no way he could have done it, because the necessary circumstances weren’t in place and he didn’t have the required information.
James Cameron’s Next Movies May Not Be an ‘Avatar’ Sequel

Tri-Star Pictures
For the past twenty years, James Cameron has primarily focused on the Avatar series. The third film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is scheduled to come out in December 2025. He has plans for at least two more Avatar movies, currently slated for 2029 and 2030, but it’s uncertain if he will direct them, as he’s now exploring other projects.
The Avatar movies, particularly after Avatar: The Way of Water earned over $2 billion in theaters, seemed guaranteed success and unlimited funding. However, the latest installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is struggling. Unless it can earn an additional $400 million, it’s projected to finish the year with lower box office numbers than Zootopia 2.
Cameron has been thinking about the future of Avatar, including ways to reduce production costs to satisfy Disney. He’s also suggested he might revisit the Terminator series. He’d like to create a new Terminator story with fresh characters, but is struggling to come up with a plot that feels futuristic and doesn’t overlap with current events surrounding artificial intelligence.
