It’s an exciting moment for the legendary players of “Survivor.” The iconic reality series has just wrapped up filming its 50th season, and fans can hardly contain their enthusiasm, sparking more discussions than typical between seasons. Notable legends like Cirie, Coach, and Colby are set to participate in “Survivor 50,” but even those who didn’t travel to Fiji find themselves in demand for their insights. Step forward Sandra.
In a recent chat on Island Talk, the winner of Survivor shared her thoughts about contestants who should have been included in the latest season but weren’t. Her list of three candidates aligns perfectly with my own opinions. Take a look at her reasons below…
Who I long for to have been present? That’s Carolyn. It’s just that she discusses this with me every day, so I deeply wish she could have been there. How is it possible they didn’t invite her? How audacious! Perhaps there will be a Season 51 because they had so many exceptional individuals who missed the cut. Jerri would have excelled. Abi would have shone. I have countless cherished friends, close to my heart, whom I would have adored to see present.
In her role as a two-time champion and a symbol of the Survivor franchise, Sandra boasts an extensive network within the Survivor community, having connections with numerous players from both her initial era and more recent times. Regardless, it’s clear that she resonates deeply with the fanbase. I’m not suggesting Carolyn, Jerri, and Abi-Maria are the three contestants fans have most vocally criticized for being eliminated, but they certainly find a place in the top ten of such complaints.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I was deeply disappointed when Jerri and Abi-Maria missed out on their roles at the eleventh hour, coming incredibly close to joining the cast. Carolyn’s exclusion earlier sparked quite a stir among fans, fueling speculation that host Jeff Probst might have been retaliating due to her decision to appear on “Traitors” prior to returning for another round of “Survivor”. Whether there’s any truth to this or not, it underscores the intense feelings of dissatisfaction among viewers about her non-selection.
Discussing the producers’ perspective, selecting just 24 players for Survivor 50 was an insurmountable challenge due to the large pool of over 600 past US participants and a vocal fanbase with at least 100 preferred returnees. It was impossible to satisfy everyone, but it could be argued that incorporating more veterans like Jerri and Abi-Maria might have lessened some criticism. Including Carolyn, who is arguably the most popular contestant from the New Era, would also have been beneficial in addressing concerns.
Based on what’s been said, there’s a strong possibility that another season with familiar faces might air quite soon. It might not be Survivor 51, as Sandra suggests, but I have a feeling it will arrive sooner than later. There haven’t been any seasons featuring returning players since 41 and 49, and the enthusiasm among fans has made it clear how eager everyone is to see these veterans back. I’d be surprised if we don’t get a new season by Survivor 55 at the earliest.
It’s anticipated that “Survivor 50” will debut in the spring of 2026. Be prepared for significant updates featuring Sandra and other legendary figures once the season goes on-air.
