Sydney Sweeney’s Smash Hit Anyone But You Has Its Global Box Office Record Broken By Her New Thriller

Sydney Sweeney’s new movie, The Housemaid, has achieved a significant box office milestone. Directed by Paul Feig, the film is based on Freida McFadden’s popular thriller and stars Sweeney as Millie, a woman on parole who takes a job cleaning for the wealthy Winchester couple, Nina and Andrew. She soon uncovers unsettling secrets about her employers.

According to Variety, the film The Housemaid is expected to reach a worldwide total of $247.3 million by the end of its fifth weekend in theaters. Of that amount, $108.7 million has come from ticket sales in the United States, with another $138.6 million earned internationally.

With this latest success, The Housemaid has surpassed the worldwide earnings of 2023’s Anyone But You ($220.3 million), making it the highest-grossing film starring Sydney Sweeney in a main role. The only other movie featuring Sweeney that has earned more globally is the Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ($377.4 million), where she had a smaller part as a member of the Manson Family.

The Housemaid has now earned more worldwide than Paul Feig’s 2015 film, Spy, becoming his second-highest-grossing movie. It’s only behind his 2011 hit comedy, Bridesmaids, which remains his biggest success so far.
