Fire Country Showrunner Exit: Season 5 Future Uncertain

The CBS drama Fire Country is facing a major change: the showrunner will be leaving after season 4, and it’s currently uncertain if the show will continue beyond that.

According to Deadline, Tia Napolitano is leaving her position as showrunner of the CBS drama Fire Country after four seasons. She plans to pursue other development opportunities, and her departure will take effect at the end of the current season.

Max Thieriot, the star of Fire Country, not only created the show but also served as an executive producer. After the pilot episode, Suzanne Napolitano joined as an executive producer and showrunner, working alongside writers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater. The series was a big hit for CBS, becoming their most-watched new show in 2022.

Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, President of CBS Studios, jointly announced that Napolitano is leaving the company.

Tia played a key role in the success of Fire Country, helping to create and guide the show, which quickly became a hit and is now the basis for a larger franchise. We deeply appreciate her dedication and hard work, and we’re excited to work with her again in the future.

Fire Country centers on Bode Donovan, a prisoner played by Max Thieriot, who joins a California firefighting program that offers inmates a chance to shorten their sentences. While battling wildfires and helping others, Bode is forced to confront his own troubled past and seek a path to redemption. The show also features Kevin Alejandro, Jordan Calloway, Jules Latimer, Diane Farr, and Billy Burke in supporting roles.

Napolitano started her television career as a writer’s assistant on Grey’s Anatomy, working with the show’s creators. She later joined Fire Country and has also contributed to several other popular series, including Cruel Summer, Station 19, Scandal, and Council of Dads.

While CBS hasn’t officially announced a fifth season of Fire Country yet, renewal is highly probable. The network is currently searching for a new showrunner, suggesting they’re preparing for future seasons.
