Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Delayed AGAIN! (But Here’s Why It’s GREAT News)

However, progress was indeed made earlier this year when Sony officially set a new release date for the highly anticipated film. Enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the resolution of the cliffhanger in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” received some good news earlier this year when “Beyond the Spider-Verse” was scheduled for a release on June 4, 2027 during CinemaCon 2025. However, there’s been a minor shift in plans, and the movie will now premiere on June 25, 2027. In a recent update shared on X, producer Chris Miller explained that this delay is not due to any issues with the film itself, but rather to perfect one aspect of its release strategy. Taking a peek at the incomplete 2027 movie lineup, we notice that “Beyond the Spider-Verse” was originally slated to debut only a week after Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter”, a film starring Ryan Gosling which is part of the franchise. There are plans for an IMAX release of this movie, and executives at both Lucasfilm and IMAX might optimistically anticipate that if it proves to be a significant success, it could warrant a prolonged run in the premium IMAX format, potentially lasting several weeks.

Moving the release date to June 25 gives “Beyond the Spider-Verse” some room to breathe in IMAX theaters. On the other hand, the live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon II” is slated to open on June 11, which means it will likely have exclusive access to IMAX screens for about two weeks. The next scheduled IMAX release after “Spider-Verse” is an unnamed Marvel movie, set to debut on July 23.

It’s understandable that since one reason spectators adore the Spider-Verse films is their breathtaking visuals, it seems logical for the creators to aspire to showcase these sights and sounds in an optimal manner. Given the likelihood of many people eagerly anticipating seeing Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in this format, and perhaps even wanting to watch it multiple times, a high-quality IMAX presentation would undoubtedly be beneficial for fans. Additionally, such a presentation could potentially boost Sony’s box office earnings as well.
