There’s a possibility we might get a second season of Marvel Zombies! The first season, which premiered on Disney+ last September, was a short, intense series with mature themes. It’s part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside other upcoming shows like Eyes of Wakanda, Daredevil: Born Again, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and the Avengers films Doomsday and Secret Wars. Marvel Zombies started as an episode of What If…?, imagining a world where a virus turned most of Earth – including the Avengers – into zombies.
The animated project brought back many familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Florence Pugh, Iman Vellani, Randall Park, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Tessa Thompson, and Paul Rudd. Despite being very popular, it was initially planned as a single season. However, Brad Winderbaum, who leads streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, recently hinted on the Official Marvel Podcast that they are now considering continuing the show.
As the first episode of the year, I can share that we’re working on some new things behind the scenes. We haven’t gotten official approval for anything yet, but we’re definitely developing another zombie story. Hopefully, it happens! It’s not confirmed, but Bryan Andrews, the showrunner, is back and we’re beginning to brainstorm ideas, and what I’ve heard so far is really exciting.
‘Marvel Zombies’ Ending Begs for More Exploration

A writer at MovieWeb recently pointed out that the ending of Marvel Zombies suggests the story isn’t over. The final scene of the fourth episode shows Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, waking up in her bedroom after what seemed like a fierce battle with demons. She initially wonders if Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) restored reality, but Riri Williams (Ironheart) quickly reveals it’s all an illusion. Riri explains she hacked the system, meaning everything Kamala experienced was fabricated.
The ending of Marvel Zombies is open to interpretation, which is a good sign, and Kevin Feige’s recent comments seem to confirm that exciting possibilities lie ahead.

Despite some initial positive buzz, the mixed reviews hindered the immediate renewal of Marvel Zombies. While RobertEbert.com criticized the show for playing it safe and not fully embracing the potential of its premise, calling it “tonally stale safeness disguised as freshness,” Bloody Disgusting praised its over-the-top violence and disturbing take on the Marvel universe, describing it as “gonzo, out of control brain-chomping…carnage.”
