I’m so thrilled to see Sydney Sweeney really succeeding with her new movie, The Housemaid! It just hit a huge milestone at the box office, actually surpassing one of Gerard Butler’s popular action films. After a few movies that didn’t quite connect with audiences, it’s amazing to see her back on top – this is her biggest hit since Anyone But You from 2023, and proves she’s still a major draw for moviegoers. I’m really excited for her and this film!
I’m amazed to see just how well The Housemaid is doing! It’s now made over $200 million worldwide, which is incredible. That puts it ahead of some really popular films, like The Shape of Water, Stargate, and even London Has Fallen. Speaking of London Has Fallen, it earned around $195 million, landing it at number 1,004 on the list of all-time highest-grossing movies. It’s wild to think The Housemaid has surpassed it!
The new thriller, The Housemaid, is earning rave reviews and stars Sweeney as Millie, a woman with a difficult past who finds work as a housemaid for a rich family. What starts as a promising job soon becomes a terrifying experience full of unexpected twists. Based on the popular novel by Freida McFadden, the movie has already been confirmed to have a sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, planned for release in 2027. If it’s successful, a third film, The Housemaid Is Watching, could complete the story.
How Much Will ‘The Housemaid’ Earn During Its Theatrical Run?

Lionsgate
With The Housemaid now exceeding $200 million in global box office revenue, Variety predicts the film will likely finish between $225 and $275 million. If this happens, it would become Sydney Sweeney’s second-highest-grossing film, following 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which earned over $377 million worldwide.
Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson shared that The Housemaid exceeded all expectations. He praised the film as a thriller that perfectly delivers on what audiences want, and also highlighted the quality of author Freida McFadden’s stories. He stated that director Paul Feig truly went above and beyond.
Our team at Lionsgate, especially the women, quickly saw the potential for Freida McFadden’s books to become great movies, even before they became bestsellers. We’re thrilled for our talented cast, filmmakers, and everyone at Lionsgate who helped bring this story to life.
After a busy 2025, Sydney Sweeney’s 2026 will be relatively calm at the movies. Her only confirmed film project is a brief, unconfirmed cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2. However, she’ll be back on television in the highly anticipated third season of HBO’s Euphoria, premiering on April 12, 2026.
