Fans hoping for a longer second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End might be disappointed. Despite weeks of rumors and speculation, it’s now confirmed the new season will only have 10 episodes.
The first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End ended in March 2024 and was a huge critical success. It quickly became the top-rated anime on MyAnimeList, and it still holds that position today, beating out titles like Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Because almost everyone loved the show, fans are very excited for Season 2. However, the new season, produced by MADHOUSE, will unfortunately be shorter than many were hoping.
Frieren Season 2 Will Run for a Confirmed 10 Episodes
Recent listings for the Blu-ray/DVD release of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End in Japan confirm that Season 2 will have just 10 episodes. While it’s possible the season might be split into two parts like Season 1, even if it is, that’s still a lot fewer episodes than the first 16 in Season 1’s initial run.
The anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is progressing in its story. Fans were excited about the possibility of seeing certain arcs, particularly the popular ‘Golden Land’ arc, in the upcoming second season. However, with Season 2 only having 10 episodes, it seems unlikely the anime will reach that point this season.
While the wait for more Frieren is tough for fans, the previews for Season 2 have been incredibly promising. The trailer released by TOHO showed a lot of exciting action, which is exactly what fans of the manga were expecting from these upcoming story arcs.

Even if the anime doesn’t get a second season, a shorter run probably won’t harm its popularity. The original manga proved incredibly successful, becoming the first to top Kadokawa’s ebook charts for five consecutive weeks with its 14th volume.
The series begins after a group of heroes saves the world by defeating the Demon King, and then they each go their separate ways. Centuries later, the elf mage Frieren is confronted with the fact that humans don’t live forever. She decides to take on an apprentice and make a point of honoring the last requests of her deceased companions. The story follows Frieren as she explores whether an elf, who lives for centuries, can truly understand and accept the cycle of life and death.
You can watch all episodes from the first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End on Crunchyroll. The new season starts today, January 16th.
