Kathleen Kennedy, while leaving her position at Lucasfilm, hinted that the Indiana Jones series isn’t over, even after the release of Dial of Destiny. She mentioned Harrison Ford would be open to reprising his role, suggesting future installments are still a possibility.
Kathleen Kennedy is hopeful about continuing Indiana Jones’ story
Kathleen Kennedy recently told Deadline that Harrison Ford was the main reason for making ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.’ She explained that Ford didn’t want the character’s story to end with the previous film and specifically requested another movie. While she believes Indiana Jones could always be revisited in the future, there are currently no plans to do so. Kennedy emphasized that the films are classics and the character will always remain iconic.
When asked about the possibility of another Indiana Jones movie, Kennedy said anything is possible. She noted that the key creative team – including herself, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Harrison Ford, and George Lucas – are all still involved, meaning they ultimately decide if another film will be made.
Kathleen Kennedy will be leaving her leadership position at Lucasfilm in early 2026. She’s chosen Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan to take over. Kennedy had discussed her departure with Bob Iger and Alan Bergman two years ago and recommended these two individuals as her replacements. She intends to return to producing and will continue to be involved with future Star Wars films and shows, working alongside Frank Marshall.
Kennedy said she’s eager to work on a wider variety of films, similar to what she did earlier in her career. She’s also excited about exploring how AI can be used creatively and ethically, particularly for ambitious, large-scale stories.
Looking back on her career, Kennedy said she doesn’t have many regrets, except perhaps about the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. She admitted it was difficult asking Alden Ehrenreich to step into such a famous role, saying they put him in a tough spot. But she emphasized she has no regrets about making another Indiana Jones film to fulfill Harrison Ford’s wishes.
