In the climax of “Captain America: Brave New World,” it was uncovered that another Avenger character wasn’t part of the final battle. Interestingly enough, a significant event transpired in Anthony Mackie’s initial major film appearance as Captain America, which took place near the movie’s end. After Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk had been vanquished, and Mackie’s Sam Wilson had saved the world from impending catastrophe, he bestowed a promotion upon his loyal sidekick, Joaquin Torres (played by Danny Ramirez), granting him superhero status as an Avenger. However, it’s worth noting that Joaquin was absent during the movie’s grand finale battle.
In the original plans for Captain America 4, Joaquin’s winged Avenger (Ramirez) was intended to join forces with Sam Wilson/Captain America during the climactic confrontation against Hulked-out Thunderbolt Ross, instead of Cap fighting alone as it turned out in the 2025 MCU blockbuster. This alteration would have prevented Falcon from being sidelined and kept him involved in the action.
In the official book, “Captain America: Brave New World—The Art of the Movie,” a previously unveiled piece of concept art indicates that Falcon was initially intended to participate in Captain America’s climactic battle against Red Hulk in Avengers: Endgame, as reported by The Artbook Collector.
In these recently revealed sketches, we find Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk tearing off Falcon’s wing from his suit and then employing it to attack and overpower Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson.
Instead of being sidelined by injury in the final film as initially planned, it turns out that the new Avenger was originally intended to team up with Captain America one last time in the Marvel Studios epic before their joint mission, rather than staying out of action.
Falcon’s inclusion in the Red Hulk fight is not the only change fans can spot via these new images.
The artwork depicts the film’s pivotal fight scene taking place in a wintry landscape, rather than the blossoming streets of Washington, D.C., adorned with cherries.
Danny Ramirez’s character, Falcon, initially appeared in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” before making his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie titled “Captain America: A New Dawn“. This film continues the story of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as he grapples with the responsibility bestowed upon him when Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers handed him the Captain America mantle at the conclusion of the Infinity Saga.
In February, Captain America 4 made its theatrical debut, receiving relatively average critiques from director Julius Onah, who is known for The Cloverfield Paradox. However, since then, it has achieved significant success on streaming platforms, emerging as one of Disney+’s most popular releases in 2021.
Why Was Falcon Sidelined in Captain America 4?
Viewing these concept artworks often presents a mixed bag of emotions for fans. While on one side, it stirs excitement to catch a glimpse of a film’s envisioned look before the cameras even roll, on the other hand, it may sometimes disappoint when the final product deviates from what was initially presented in the artwork. For many, this disappointment might be more common than the satisfaction they hoped for.
In the upcoming movie “Captain America 4”, Falcon, portrayed by Danny Ramirez, endures severe injuries after being brought down mid-air during the conflict on Celestial Island, just prior to the climactic battle against Red Hulk as shown in the latest concept art.
In this scenario, instead of joining Sam Wilson in action on the battlefield, the winged character (and recent addition to the Avengers) is recuperating in a hospital bed due to injury, denying viewers an exciting Avengers team-up scene in the most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster.
In essence, it appears that the story prioritized developing the character of Sam over the duo of Sam and Joaquin, in “Brave New World.” Fundamentally, this narrative delves into Sam grappling with his identity as a man, rather than possessing the enhanced abilities characteristic of his Captain America counterpart.
Through arranging the ultimate showdown as a one-on-one encounter between Sam and Red Hulk, the character demonstrates his ability to subdue extraordinary dangers without relying on any exotic serums.
If Falcon had also been there, the main theme might not have stood out as strongly, potentially reducing the movie’s overall power or intensity.
