Tomb Raider is back.
This is Sophie Turner as the new Lara Croft! She’s set to star in a Tomb Raider TV series that’s now in production and will be available on Amazon Prime Video.
I’m really excited about this new series! It’s from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the brilliant mind behind Fleabag, and she’s working alongside Chad Hodge as a showrunner. The cast is incredible too – not only does it star Naomi Watts, but you’ve also got Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and a whole bunch of other fantastic actors like Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. It’s shaping up to be something special!
This is the complete picture of Lara Croft as portrayed by Turner, and Amazon claims it was taken on the set of the Tomb Raider movie.

The bare-bones plot description of the show provided by Amazon reads…
The Prime Video series, Tomb Raider, is inspired by the popular Tomb Raider video games. It tells the story of Lara Croft, a renowned archaeologist and adventurer.
Alicia Vikander isn’t the first actress to play Lara Croft on the big screen. Angelina Jolie starred in two Tomb Raider films—Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003)—and now, Alicia Vikander played the character in a 2018 prequel simply titled Tomb Raider, making Turner the third actress to take on the role.
I first fell in love with Lara Croft back in the original Tomb Raider game from 1996 – she was basically an Indiana Jones type, though her shorts were much shorter! She’s been incredibly popular ever since, and honestly, you can’t go more than a few years without a new adventure. If you check the Tomb Raider Wikipedia page – and it’s always accurate! – you’ll see there are already 25 games in the series, and even two more on the way: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis in 2026 and Tomb Raider: Catalyst in 2027.
The 16 TV Shows We’re Looking Forward to in 2026

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO)
Even though Game of Thrones finished a few years ago, its spin-off shows are just getting started. In addition to the upcoming third season of House of the Dragon – expected to arrive this year – we’re also getting A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new prequel series based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg stories. The show stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), a knight of humble origins, and Dexter Sol Ansell as his young companion, Prince Aegon Targaryen (Egg). Set about 100 years before Game of Thrones and right after the events of House of the Dragon, this new series means it’s time to update your A Song of Ice and Fire timeline!

Cape Fear (Apple TV)
Fans of thrilling dramas will be excited about Apple TV+’s new series, a modern take on the story of Cape Fear. The show centers around a man recently released from prison who seeks revenge on the lawyer who helped convict him. While not a remake of the original novel or films, it borrows elements from all three. The series stars Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson, and is created by Nick Antosca, known for shows like Channel Zero, Hannibal, and the Netflix miniseries Brand New Cherry Flavor.

Carrie (Prime Video)
It seems like every generation gets its own version of Carrie. Stephen King’s classic novel has already been turned into four movies and a musical, but it’s never been a TV series – until now. A new miniseries on Prime Video will feature newcomer Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, the high school student who uses her telekinetic powers to get revenge on those who torment her. Expect plenty of drama – and, of course, a lot of pig’s blood! The series is being directed by Mike Flanagan, a well-known horror director who has previously adapted other Stephen King stories like Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, and The Life of Chuck.

Crystal Lake (Peacock)
After a long wait, the prequel series Crystal Lake, which explores the origins of the Friday the 13th horror franchise, is heading to Peacock, brought to us by A24. Originally developed by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal), Fuller was let go after the 2023 Writers Guild strike as A24 decided to change the show’s creative path. Now, Bradley Caleb Kane, a writer and producer on last year’s popular IT prequel IT: Welcome to Derry, is taking the lead as showrunner, and we’ll soon see what he brings to the screen.

East of Eden (Netflix)
Following the success of shows like Bridgerton, Netflix is releasing several miniseries based on classic novels this year. While an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence is planned for later in the year, fans are especially excited about the upcoming series based on John Steinbeck’s East of Eden. Written and produced by Zoe Kazan, the show boasts a stellar cast including Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Tracy Letts, and Ciaran Hinds – and likely many other talented actors. It’s definitely one to watch!

Euphoria Season 3 (HBO)
Many fans wondered if it would ever return, but Sam Levinson’s provocative series Euphoria is coming back for a third – and probably final – season this spring. The main cast, including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Eric Dane, will all be back. The new season jumps five years forward, showing what happened to the characters after high school. We’ll find Rue struggling with debt in a dangerous situation, Cassie and Nate are married, and Jules is pursuing her art in school.

Industry Season 4 (HBO)
The thrilling HBO drama Industry returns this year! Following the explosive events of Season 3, where careers and relationships crumbled, the ambitious young professionals are back and more cutthroat than ever. They’re taking on the high-stakes world of finance with relentless determination. Harper (Myha’la) now leads a specialized investment firm and is focused on dismantling a new, potentially disruptive payment company. Meanwhile, Yasmin (Marisa Abela) is navigating the complex realities of wealth and marriage after tying the knot with Henry Muck (Kit Harington), and their former boss, Eric (Ken Leung), is enjoying retirement – though that might not last long.

Lanterns (HBO)
This year will see the launch of Lanterns, a new series in the DC Universe and the first major Green Lantern adaptation since the 2011 film. The show stars Kyle Chandler as the experienced Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, a new recruit. Together, they’ll investigate a puzzling murder in Nebraska. Kelly Macdonald joins the cast as a local sheriff, and Nathan Fillion returns as Green Lantern Guy Gardner. The series was created by Chris Mundy, comic writer Tom King, and Damon Lindelof, known for his work on Lost and Watchmen.

Neuromancer (Apple TV)
Apple TV is adding another potentially excellent sci-fi series to its lineup with an adaptation of William Gibson’s groundbreaking 1984 novel, Neuromancer, the book that helped popularize the cyberpunk genre. Callum Turner plays Case, a small-time criminal who has lost his ability to connect to virtual reality. He gets a chance to regain access when a mysterious ex-military officer offers him a hacking job, but it quickly becomes a dangerous mission where survival depends on seeing it through.

The Pitt Season 2 (HBO Max)
The popular medical drama is returning for a second season, and it’s still just as intense! Noah Wyle reprises his role as Dr. Robby in The Pitt, now set during the chaotic Fourth of July. Expect plenty of graphic injuries, just like last season. Each episode takes place in real-time over one hour in a Pittsburgh hospital’s emergency room, following the doctors – both new and experienced – as they treat a wide range of injuries and deal with their own personal lives.

Pride and Prejudice (Netflix)
Fans of both Netflix and classic novel adaptations have something to look forward to this year! Netflix is creating a miniseries based on Jane Austen’s beloved novel, Pride and Prejudice. Considering how well similar period dramas have performed on the platform, it’s a welcome addition. The series will feature Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as the complex Mr. Darcy, with Olivia Colman, Rufus Sewell, Fiona Shaw, and Louis Partridge also joining the cast.

Spider-Noir (Prime Video)
Okay, I’m genuinely excited about this! Remember Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse? Well, that character is getting his own live-action TV show! It’s called Spider-Noir, and it’s set in a really cool, gritty 1930s New York. The show follows Ben Reilly, an older private investigator who also happens to be a superhero, as he tackles cases and confronts his own dark history. What’s really neat is they’re shooting the whole thing in black and white to capture that classic film noir vibe. Honestly, out of all the superhero stuff coming out this year, this one feels like something truly different and special.

Star City (Apple TV)
Fans of Apple TV+’s acclaimed sci-fi series, For All Mankind, which imagines an alternate history of the Space Race, have another show to look forward to: Star City. Also created by Ronald D. Moore, this spinoff will explore the Soviet Union’s space program, focusing on the cosmonauts and their contributions to space exploration. Details are still limited, but the cast includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Ruby Ashbourne Serkis.

Ted Lasso Season 4 (Apple TV)
The popular Apple TV+ comedy-drama Ted Lasso will return for one last season, even though the show wrapped up its main story arc about the world of football in Season 3. The announcement came at the start of 2025, and most of the original cast – including Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, and Jeremy Swift – are confirmed to return. While details about the plot are still under wraps, fans can expect more fun, football action, and touching moments with the characters.

The Terror: Devil in Silver (AMC)
Fans of scary TV are in for a treat! A new season of The Terror, titled Devil in Silver, is coming to AMC this year. Based on Victor LaValle’s novel of the same name, the story follows a man wrongly committed to a mental asylum who suspects a demonic presence within its walls. The series will feature a talented cast including Dan Stevens, Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Stephen Root, and Aasif Mandvi.

The Testaments (Hulu)
Just when we thought the story of Gilead was over with the end of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale last year, Hulu is continuing the saga with The Testaments. This new series, based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 sequel novel, takes place five years after the original finale and focuses on a younger generation of women who’ve grown up knowing nothing of the world before Gilead. Ann Dowd returns as the formidable Aunt Lydia, and Chase Infiniti stars as Agnes Mackenzie, the daughter of June, the main character from The Handmaid’s Tale.
