Kiefer Sutherland, known for his roles in shows and movies like Stand by Me and The Lost Boys, was arrested Monday. Police in Los Angeles say he was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a ride-share driver.
According to The Guardian, Sutherland was arrested in Hollywood shortly after midnight after police received a call. Police say he got into a ride-share car, attacked the driver, and threatened them.
Police say Sutherland was released on $50,000 bail just a few hours after being arrested. His next court date is set for February 2, 2026. The driver involved didn’t need to be treated for any injuries.
This latest incident adds to a history of legal troubles for Sutherland. In 2007, he was arrested for drunk driving after failing a field sobriety test and was initially released on $25,000 bail. That arrest was his fourth DUI since 1989, and he eventually pleaded no contest, resulting in a 48-day jail sentence.
In 2009, actor Kiefer Sutherland turned himself in to New York City police after an altercation with fashion designer Jack McCollough, co-founder of Proenza Schouler, at the Mercer Hotel. Shortly after, both Sutherland and McCollough issued a statement where Sutherland apologized, and the charges against him were dismissed.
Kiefer Sutherland is a well-known actor in both movies and television. He’s famous for roles in films like Stephen King’s Stand by Me and Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys. He also starred as Jack Bauer in the popular Fox series 24, which aired from 2001 to 2014.
Sutherland’s Upcoming Projects Include a Thriller with The Fifth Element’s Director
It’s been more than a decade since Kiefer Sutherland appeared on TV in 24, but he has several new projects planned for 2026 and after. One of these is Father Joe, a French thriller also starring Al Pacino and Ever Anderson. Sutherland will play the lead role in the film, set in the 1990s, which tells the story of a priest who becomes entangled in a conflict with a powerful mob boss.
Donald Sutherland will star in the upcoming action thriller, Sierra Madre, written by Delbert Hancock and Ian Mackenzie Jeffers. He plays Captain Jordan Wright, who travels to Mexico for a wedding only to find himself facing a dangerous cartel. This quickly leads to a fight to protect those around him. As of now, neither Sierra Madre nor another of Sutherland’s projects, Father Joe, have confirmed release dates.
We anticipate learning more about what Sutherland is accused of when he appears in court on February 2nd.
