Recently, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been very popular on Netflix. However, its streaming success highlights the difficulties the franchise is facing with new releases. The 2018 animated film from Sony Pictures tells the story of Miles Morales, a Spider-Man voiced by Shameik Moore.
I was completely blown away by Spider-Verse! It quickly became one of my all-time favorite Spider-Man movies, and it totally deserved its Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The story was just perfect – it made me laugh and feel real emotion – but honestly, the animation style is what really stood out. It was stunning and unlike anything I’d ever seen before!
It’s easy to see why Sony Pictures and Marvel made another Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse movie – the first one was visually stunning, and the sequel brought in even more great Marvel characters. While we haven’t seen a new film since 2023, the series is gaining popularity again now.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Has Found New Life On Netflix
Even though it came out eight years ago, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is still incredibly popular. According to FlixPatrol, the first movie in the Spider-Verse series has been among the top 10 films on Netflix for more than two weeks. It’s also performing well in the rankings for kids’ movies, boosted by Hailee Steinfeld’s performance as Spider-Gwen.
Now that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is available on Netflix, more people are watching the 2023 follow-up film as well. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently streaming on Disney+, and it recently made the platform’s Top 10 Movies list.
Good news for fans of the Spider-Verse! A third movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is officially in the works. Given the shocking ending of Across the Spider-Verse, which introduced another version of Miles, fans were already anxious for the next installment. Unfortunately, production has faced some unavoidable setbacks and delays.

It’s great news that the Spider-Verse movies are becoming popular again. However, renewed interest also highlights the fact that we’re still waiting for the next installment. While Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is being made, it’s taking longer to come out than originally planned. It was first scheduled to be released in March 2024.
As a huge fan of the Spider-Verse films, I was so excited when Beyond the Spider-Verse finally got a release date – June 18, 2027! It’s been a bit of a wait, with Sony shuffling things around a few times, but honestly, rewatching the first two movies just reminds me how much care went into them. It’s a little sad to think it could have been out almost two years ago if everything had gone smoothly, but this isn’t a movie you can just rush. It needs to be perfect.
Originally, there was only going to be one sequel to Spider-Verse. However, Across the Spider-Verse grew into a larger story and was divided into two films. Beyond the Spider-Verse faced additional setbacks – first due to challenges with the story and animation, and then because of the Hollywood strikes, which further delayed its production.
The Spider-Verse films are fantastic, with amazing animation and stories, but they take a long time to produce. Coordinating voice actors and their schedules adds to the delay. For now, we’ll have to rewatch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse on streaming, or rely on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to hold us over until 2027.
