Warner Bros. takes great care in ensuring that the young actors on the set of the new Harry Potter TV series receive proper nurturing and education, even going to extraordinary measures for their welfare.
What is the Harry Potter TV show doing to keep its actors educated?
As per a report by BBC, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, where the new TV series is being produced, is constructing a temporary school. This is so that the numerous child actors working on set can maintain their education and stay current with their schoolwork, all while they’re busy filming the show.
In collaboration with Three Rivers District Council, WB was granted authorization to utilize a set of portable buildings as a school facility over the course of the next ten years, as reported by BBC.
The buildings are intended to accommodate up to 600 students at a time, but it’s expected they will only cater to around 150 students consistently. The “school” is planned to function from 5:30am to 8:30pm on weekdays, allowing actors to fit in some school hours amidst their schedules which may involve night shooting or filming away from the primary production location.
The BBC’s report did not explicitly mention Harry Potter, but it did reveal that the buildings would be utilized for a substantial television series lasting up to ten years, which aligns with the potential duration of an upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
The Harry Potter series is referred to as a “long-term” endeavor, lasting approximately ten years. Each installment is anticipated to cover one book from J.K. Rowling’s famous series. The show will be spearheaded by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout portraying the characters Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley respectively.
In addition to the main three characters, the Harry Potter TV series features John Lithgow portraying Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer taking on Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu in the role of Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon playing Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Katherine Parkinson depicting Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt portraying Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn acting as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah in the role of Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, and Bertie Carvel playing Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic.
At present, it’s still undecided who else will join the cast, but there have been whispers suggesting possible additional cast members, even mentioning Voldemort as one possibility. Further details about the cast are anticipated to be revealed later on.
The upcoming HBO series is being penned by Emmy-winning producer Francesca Gardiner, known for shows like Killing Eve and Succession. This series will be overseen by Gardiner, Mark Mylod, J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and veteran Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman. Additionally, Mylod, who has a history of working with HBO on Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, will also direct several episodes. This production is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
