Idris Elba’s Apple TV Thriller Surges On Streaming Ahead Of Season 2

I’ve been revisiting Hijack recently, and it’s great to see this Idris Elba thriller getting another moment in the spotlight with season 2 on the way! Seriously, even Stephen King gave it a thumbs-up, which speaks volumes. The show centers around Elba’s character, Sam Nelson, who’s a really skilled negotiator suddenly thrown into the ultimate high-stakes situation – a hijacked plane. He ends up being the key person trying to work things out between the hijackers and the authorities. It was a huge hit with both critics and viewers, and I can see why – it’s a really gripping watch.

In season 2 of Hijack, Idris Elba is back as Sam, this time facing a hostage situation on a Berlin subway train. As before, he’s the key point of contact between those on the outside and the hijackers, working to avert disaster and uncover their bigger plan. The new season premieres on Apple TV on Wednesday, January 14th.

According to FlixPatrol, Hijack is gaining popularity on Apple TV before its second season begins. As of January 13, 2025, it’s currently the third most popular show worldwide on the platform, even reaching the number one spot in Grenada and Belize. In the US, Hijack is currently ranked fourth.

The first season of Hijack concluded with a dangerous standoff: Sam managed to trap and recapture Atterton, a key hijacker, but nearly lost his life in the process. However, the show made it clear that the hijacking itself was only a piece of a much bigger, more complex operation orchestrated by the group behind it all.

The growing excitement is probably due to the upcoming release of season 2. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the new season since the first one aired in the summer of 2023. After a wait of over two years, the return of Hijack promises a fresh location while still maintaining the elements that made the first season so engaging.

It looks like Elba’s character will face danger, likely due to events from the first season. The show hasn’t forgotten about the original hijacking storyline; in fact, season 2 delves deeper into why it happened as Sam attempts to negotiate peace aboard the train. But it’s uncertain whether he’ll succeed in saving everyone.

Season 2 of Hijack will have eight episodes, one more than the first season, meaning a more extensive and dangerous situation as the hijacking unfolds, putting Sam and several new characters at risk. The story will also involve his family and those who previously investigated the incident. With the show’s popularity, the new season is eagerly awaited.

Hijack season 2 begins January 14, 2026 on Apple TV, and will air new episodes every Wednesday.
