Is MuppetVision 3D Making a Comeback? Brian Henson Hints at Revival!

Recently, Brian Henson, chairman of The Jim Henson Company and son of founder Jim Henson, spoke about the future of Muppet Vision 3D, a cherished attraction that shut down at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 8, 2025, in an interview with TheaterMania.

His remarks suggest the possibility of a future reappearance.

During an interview discussing his father’s enduring impact, the interviewer inquired about the future status of the attraction.

Has MuppetVision 3D been permanently removed from the parks?” was the question posed. However, Henson assured that the attraction has been meticulously preserved by Disney.

He said that they finished it off like Disney typically does, by preserving it for future reference and ensuring all mechanical parts were neatly stored. This means that, in theory, they can easily reassemble it whenever they decide to do so.

In line with an earlier exclusive report from That Park Place, this degree of meticulous protection appears to correspond to rumors that Disney might be planning to relocate the attraction due to its careful conservation efforts.

Apart from commending the original attraction’s ability to handle crowds and its widespread popularity, he pointed out that it was designed to accommodate roughly 500 visitors every quarter-hour. He referred to it as “one of Disney’s most immersive attractions” and lamented its closure.

Disney’s Possible Plans

Disney seems just as committed to preservation efforts. In May 2025, Cast Members were invited to an early-morning event for the digital recording of the entire show, which might be saved for future reference or use. Earlier, it was confirmed that discussions about conserving various MuppetVision aspects were in progress.

As a huge fan, I’ve been captivated by the ongoing conversations about preserving theme parks, but it’s not just that. The Jim Henson Company has shared exciting news about a potential virtual reality adaptation of one of their films! It might even grace platforms like Disney+ or VR headsets. Intriguingly, Lisa Henson, our CEO, hinted at these discussions during the 70th-anniversary panel for the company. She mentioned that filming had been done using VR cameras, which adds an extra layer of anticipation to this project!

Those efforts would enable a “next act” for the attraction in a non‑physical format.

Disney Parks is currently working on expanding its Hollywood Studios area. By about 2026, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be revamped with an Electric Mayhem theme based on The Muppets franchise. Furthermore, the old MuppetVision 3D space is set to become part of a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land, but the specific purpose of the building, now called the “Glob Theater,” has yet to be revealed.

Currently, there are no definite plans from Disney to bring back Muppet Vision 3D. Nevertheless, due to the conservation of animatronics, stored footage, and both Disney’s and the Henson family’s expressed interest, the groundwork has been laid for various potential future presentations.

Why This Matters to Fans

Jim Henson’s final major project, Muppet Vision 3D, premiered on May 16, 1991. This unique attraction blended a 3D movie experience with theater effects and mechanical puppets. Characters like Statler and Waldorf in the balcony, the Swedish Chef in the projection booth, and live performers were all incorporated into it.

As such, it holds a special place in theme-park and Muppet legacy.

As a passionate cinephile, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness and bewilderment when the much-loved attraction unexpectedly shut its doors earlier this summer. The final day was bittersweet, with fans gathering outside the theater to sing “The Rainbow Connection,” a poignant song that echoed our shared memories. On this historic day, it was an honor to witness Jim Henson’s daughter, Heather Henson, stepping into the attraction one last time before it closed for good.

Brian Henson’s comments fuel optimism among fans, hinting at a potential return of MuppetVision in the future. All essential elements are still intact, but the question remains if Disney will approve the reopening.
