The latest Anaconda film has become just the second movie in the series to reach a significant box office goal. The reboot stars Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello in a story about a filmmaking crew whose attempt to create their own Anaconda movie goes terribly wrong.
According to Deadline, the new Anaconda movie has reached a worldwide box office total of $101.6 million, earning $50.4 million in the US and $51.2 million internationally. This is the first film in the series to cross the $100 million mark since the original movie came out in 1997.
The first Anaconda movie, featuring Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube, is still the most successful film in the series, earning $137 million around the world. The sequel, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid from 2004, earned considerably less, bringing in $70.3 million globally.
The Anaconda movies released directly for television between 2004 and 2025 didn’t earn money at the box office because they weren’t shown in theaters. This includes Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008), Anacondas: Trail of Blood (2009), and Lake Placid vs. Anaconda (2015), all of which first appeared on the Syfy channel.
Costing $45 million to produce, the 2025 Anaconda movie is on track to be both a financial success and a high point for the franchise – something it hasn’t achieved since 1997. Released on Christmas Day, the film has performed well despite competing with popular movies like Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Housemaid, Marty Supreme, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

Critics are divided on the movie Anaconda, giving it a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Gregory Nussen from ScreenRant described it as both humorous and unexpectedly charming, but ultimately lacking substance – comparing it to a snake’s lack of bones.
The movie has been well-received by audiences, as shown by its strong ticket sales and a 76% rating on Popcornmeter. Many viewers particularly enjoyed its over-the-top humor and the performances by actors Black, Rudd, and Zahn.
Like many Jack Black films, Anaconda is proving to be a hit with audiences. While it likely won’t reach the massive success of films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie (which earned $1.3 billion worldwide) or A Minecraft Movie ($958.2 million), Anaconda continues Black’s streak of box office winners.
Now that the new Anaconda movie has earned over $100 million worldwide, there’s a good chance we’ll see more films in the series. The reboot has a comedic tone, and future installments might follow that direction, but there are no definite plans yet.
