One Intriguing Harry Potter Casting Rumor Has My Attention In 2026

In 2027, it will be 30 years since the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was published – the book that started the incredibly popular Wizarding World franchise. Fittingly, that same year will also see the start of a new Harry Potter TV series on HBO. While the first season is still being filmed, and 2025 brought many announcements about the cast, a recent casting rumor has really caught my attention.

Sources are reporting that Tilda Swinton is being considered to play Voldemort in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Voldemort, also known as Tom Riddle, is the main villain in the Harry Potter stories. Several actors have previously portrayed Voldemort or younger versions of him: Ian Hart provided the voice in The Sorcerer’s Stone, Christian Coulson played a teenage Tom Riddle in The Chamber of Secrets, and Ralph Fiennes famously played the Dark Lord in most of the later films. Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Frank Dillane also appeared as younger versions of Tom Riddle in The Half-Blood Prince.

As a longtime movie fan, I’ve definitely noticed how often filmmakers are now reimagining characters’ genders when adapting stories, and Tilda Swinton is no stranger to that. Remember when she played The Ancient One in the Doctor Strange and Avengers films? The comic book version is a man, but she brought a totally unique energy to the role. So, the idea of her taking on Voldemort in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series doesn’t feel that far-fetched. Plus, she’s already proven she can nail the fantasy genre – who could forget her as the White Witch in the Chronicles of Narnia movies? She really brings something special to these kinds of roles.

As I mentioned before, this is just speculation, so don’t get your hopes up too high. However, with the TV show scheduled to premiere in early 2025, we’ll probably find out this year who’s playing Voldemort. If Tilda Swinton does get the role, I’m really curious to see her unique interpretation of the character – how it will be different from Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal, while still staying true to the book’s description.

The new Harry Potter TV series has announced its main cast. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Alastair Stout will be Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione Granger. Joining them are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Papa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Several other familiar faces will also appear, including Warwick Davis, who is returning to his role as Filius Flitwick from the films.

Stay tuned to TopMob for the latest news on the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, including updates on the rumor that Tilda Swinton might be involved. The thought of her transforming to resemble Voldemort’s snake-like appearance, as Ralph Fiennes did in the films, is surprisingly intriguing.
