The popular romance series Heated Rivalry is everywhere, and its fans should also check out creator Jacob Tierney’s other show, Letterkenny. Heated Rivalry centers on the complicated, years-long connection between rival hockey players Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), who are secretly involved with each other.
The show Heated Rivalry, based on Rachel Reid’s novels, has resonated with viewers, largely due to the work of Jared Tierney, who brought it to the screen. Tierney is a versatile talent – an actor, writer, producer, and director – and many will recognize him from his role in Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark?. Before Heated Rivalry, though, he was best known as the co-creator of the popular Canadian comedy Letterkenny.
Letterkenny Went On For 12 Seasons Before Heated Rivalry Debuted
Created by Jared Keeso, Letterkenny is a witty comedy series set in the small, fictional town of Letterkenny, Ontario. The show follows the lives of various groups within the town, with Keeso playing the central character, Wayne. Because Letterkenny is a close-knit community of just 5,000 people, everyone’s personal problems quickly become public knowledge.
Although both Letterkenny and Heated Rivalry feature hockey, they’re very different shows. Letterkenny relies on quick, witty jokes and wordplay, while Heated Rivalry focuses on dramatic plots. Another key difference is the size of the casts: Heated Rivalry has a small group of characters, whereas Letterkenny features a large ensemble cast divided into groups like the Hicks, Jocks, Skids, and Natives.
While it’s different from Heated Rivalry, Letterkenny is a distinctly Canadian comedy that’s worth watching, having run for 12 seasons and starring Tierney.
What’s Next For Jacob Tierney
Jacob Tierney is set to have a very busy 2026. Following the popularity of Letterkenny, a new series centered around the character Shoresy, played by Jared Keeso, was created. Tierney joined the project as a director and executive producer, and the fifth season is scheduled to debut on Christmas Day 2025.
I’m so thrilled to hear that Tierney will continue to be involved with Heated Rivalry as its creator, showrunner, and director! The show was such a hit in its first season that it’s already been renewed for a second! I’m especially excited because season two will be based on The Long Game, the sixth book in the Game Changers series – and that means we’ll get to see even more of Shane and Ilya’s beautiful story unfold.
In addition to the hit shows Heated Rivalry and the ongoing fifth season of Shoresy, Jared Tierney has another series, Trailer Trash, coming to Prime Video in 2026. This unscripted show will follow the owners and employees of Young Farts RV Parts, a company from Alberta that gained popularity through their TikTok videos. It’s clear that Jared Tierney, known for Letterkenny, has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
