The new thriller series Girl Taken, starring a familiar face from Game of Thrones, is quickly becoming a hit with viewers. The British show centers around sisters Lily and Abby, whose lives are turned upside down when Lily is kidnapped by their schoolteacher, Rick Hansen, played by Alfie Allen – best known as Theon Greyjoy from Game of Thrones.
According to FlixPatrol, the new miniseries Girl Taken is already a huge hit globally. Released just yesterday, it’s currently ranked at Number 3 worldwide on Paramount+ (as of January 9, 2025). It’s also the most-watched title in the UK, Ireland, and Italy.
This thrilling mystery follows both the investigation into Lily’s disappearance and her desperate attempt to get away from Rick. Critics are already praising the show, with all three reviews currently available being positive. Even without a Rotten Tomatoes score yet, the early response suggests a truly suspenseful and captivating series.
The show is generally well-received by audiences, although it’s not without some criticism. It currently has a 6.1/10 rating on IMDb based on 128 reviews. Most viewers seem to have either really liked it, giving it a 7 or 10, or strongly disliked it (with some 1 and 2 star ratings), but overall, people are enjoying the performances of the actors in this new series.
The television series Girl Taken is adapted from Hollie Overton’s novel Baby Doll. David Turpin developed the show for television and also wrote several episodes, along with Suzanne Cowie and Nessa Muthy. The series stars Jill Halfpenny, Vikash Bhai, Niamh Walsh, and Levi Brown, with supporting roles played by Holly Atkins, Victoria Ekanoye, and Kiran Krishnakumar.
This thriller is just one of several roles Allen has taken on since finishing the popular fantasy series. Previously known for his work on Game of Thrones, he also starred in the Streamz crime drama Safe Harbor and the British action series Atomic. He’s also slated to appear in a significant role in the second season of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, which is coming out later this year.
Now that Girl Taken has quickly become a hit, it’s expected to remain popular with viewers on Paramount+ for a while. The show just launched, and early reviews are very positive, suggesting it will continue to gain attention throughout its opening weekend.
