Superman is characterized by his moral integrity and his faith in a brighter future for all, including his adversaries whom he believes may change or serve as role models for improvement. This theme is emphasized in Superman Unlimited #3, where a revamped version of an old nemesis attempts to redeem a tarnished reputation.
In “Superman Unlimited #3,” penned by Dan Slott and illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque, the issue is titled “Good Boy.” Initially, this seems to be a reference to the storyline revolving around Krypto, Superdog. However, as events unfold, it becomes clear that the title extends to another character as well.
Throughout the course of his day, Krypto picks up the trail of Winslow Schott, also known as Toyman. Recalling the old adversary of his owner, Krypto takes off to face this supervillain. Not long after, he and Superman find themselves locked in a battle against a colossal robot, armed with an engine powered by Kryptonite, at the Metropolis Science Expo. However, there’s more to this transforming robot than meets the eye.
New Toyman is a robotic Pinocchio and “good boy”
When a small figure appears wearing a mask often used by Winslow Schott, Superman isn’t taken aback. This individual claims not to be Winslow Schott himself, but instead, he introduces himself as Winslow’s “son” – a man made of clockwork and plastic toys. Krypto sensed their link, yet this new Toyman desires to aid people with his inventions and break free from the wicked influence of his creator.
The conflict was peacefully settled, with the latest Toyman expressing his benevolent intentions towards Superman. He aimed to demonstrate that Kryptonite could be harmless once securely sealed, but to make up for the misunderstanding, he compensated Krypto for his loyalty by crafting some unique dog toys especially for him.
Superman Unlimited #3 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
