Soon after it first aired, Game of Thrones became one of HBO’s most talked-about shows. The series, based on the popular books, quickly became a cultural phenomenon, and many people still enjoy rewatching it on HBO Max. Actress Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark, recently shared her thoughts on potentially returning to the role, and she raises some interesting points.
The ending of Game of Thrones remains controversial, with many fans unhappy with the conclusion. However, the world of Westeros is expanding with the prequel House of the Dragon and the upcoming series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. When asked by The Direct if she would reprise her role as the Queen in the North, Sophie Turner playfully responded with:
Show me the money (laughs).
Going back to Westeros would be a huge undertaking, but as Turner pointed out, it would probably be very profitable. Game of Thrones was an incredibly costly show to produce, so the cast would likely expect significant compensation to reprise their roles. And honestly, you can’t really blame them for wanting that.
Putting the fun aside, the actress best known for her role in the X-Men films recently talked about potentially going back to Game of Thrones. She shared her thoughts on the show’s divisive ending, specifically how the character of Sansa Stark’s storyline concluded. She explained it like this:
It’s a tough question. Revisiting that story would be challenging, but also potentially really rewarding. I was very satisfied with how Sansa’s story concluded in Game of Thrones, especially since many other characters didn’t get satisfying endings. I feel like I achieved a good outcome for her, so I’m hesitant to go back and change anything.
Although many fans questioned the choices made regarding Bran becoming king and the storylines of Jon Snow and Daenerys, Sansa Stark received a particularly satisfying conclusion. She remained true to her family’s values and successfully established the North as an independent kingdom. After enduring years of hardship and abuse, viewers were thrilled to see Sansa confidently ruling from Winterfell.

Even so, the actors clearly have great memories of working on Game of Thrones. Sophie Turner, for example, became close friends with Maisie Williams and even adopted a dog she met on set. She later talked about the possibility of returning to the show, saying:
It could be fantastic, or it could be a disappointing attempt to recapture something special from the past. I’d need to read the script to know for sure.
You’re right. Whether or not the original actors would return for more Game of Thrones would probably depend heavily on the quality of the script. Currently, there aren’t any plans to revive the main series; HBO is concentrating on spin-off shows instead. However, with how strong nostalgia is these days, you can never say never.
You can watch all of Game of Thrones right now on HBO Max. The story will continue with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will begin streaming on January 18th as part of the 2026 TV lineup.
