A fantastic story that first became a popular movie 24 years ago is now a huge success on HBO Max. Over the years, only a handful of fantasy franchises have truly stood out, and this one began as a book adaptation.
The Lord of the Rings movies are incredibly influential, not just in fantasy filmmaking, but in cinema overall. Peter Jackson’s original trilogy was a huge critical success, and with new spin-off movies planned, it’s a great time to revisit the films that started it all.
According to FlixPatrol, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is currently the ninth most popular movie on HBO Max around the world. It’s the only film from the Lord of the Rings series to appear in the platform’s top ten list. The Two Towers is performing better than Jurassic World from 2015, which relaunched the Jurassic Park franchise. Worldwide, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers earned $938 million.
HBO Max is currently the main streaming platform for the Warner Bros. film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers worldwide. The 2002 movie has reached the top ten list in 13 countries, including Albania, Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Denmark, France, and North Macedonia, among others.
Among the 13 countries where people are watching The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Ukraine shows the most interest. It’s currently the second most popular movie on HBO Max there. Interestingly, despite being available in the United States, the film isn’t even in the top ten most-watched movies on the platform.
Despite winning an Oscar, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers hasn’t appeared on HBO Max’s top ten movie list across the country in 2026. The last time it made the list was December 31, 2025, when it reached number seven. It hasn’t been featured since.
Following the original Lord of the Rings films, Warner Bros. released three movies based on The Hobbit. More recently, the franchise continued with the Prime Video series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which has been picked up for a third season. The popularity of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers on streaming platforms proves the franchise is still thriving.
