Okay, so I just finished watching the final season of Stranger Things, and as a huge fan, I’m already seeing a lot of different reactions online. It’s that thing that always happens when a show you love wraps up – not everyone’s going to be happy, and opinions are strong. Just a heads-up, I’m probably going to talk about things that happen in the last episode, so consider yourself warned if you haven’t seen it yet!
The ending of Netflix’s Stranger Things has sparked a lot of debate online. Many viewers are comparing it to the controversial finale of Game of Thrones, calling it a major letdown. After nearly ten years, the series concluded on December 31st, and while a lot of people were watching, the ending didn’t satisfy everyone.

Both Game of Thrones and Stranger Things are incredibly popular shows with many highly-rated episodes. However, Game of Thrones received a lot of criticism online for its disappointing final season and series finale. While it’s natural for viewers to be upset with how a show ends, it’s difficult for any TV series to satisfy everyone.

Finn Wolfhard, the star of Stranger Things, recently told Time magazine that there was widespread concern the show’s finale would be as divisive as the ending of HBO’s Game of Thrones. “Honestly, everyone was pretty worried,” he said. “Seeing how Game of Thrones was criticized for its final season, we were hoping to avoid a similar reaction. But when we read the scripts, we realized we had something truly special.”
Before the last episodes of season 5 aired, the creators of the show, Matt and Ross Duffer, dismissed comparisons to Game of Thrones. Addressing concerns that their heroes might meet a grim fate, Matt Duffer reassured fans that, while he enjoys Game of Thrones, their show is different and wouldn’t feature a shocking, violent event like the infamous ‘Red Wedding’.
Even though some viewers weren’t thrilled with the last episode, many appreciated how it wrapped up the storylines for beloved characters. However, the world of Stranger Things and its characters still have potential for future spin-offs, and creators Matt and Ross Duffer have openly said they aren’t planning to end the franchise completely just yet.
All seasons of Stranger Things are available to stream on Netflix.
