With the end of Stranger Things‘ final season, the actors and everyone who worked on the show are saying a heartfelt goodbye to a series they’ve dedicated ten years of their lives to.
With the finale of Stranger Things airing on New Year’s Eve, the actors – many of whom spent their childhood and teenage years working on the show – are sharing their thoughts on how the series changed their lives and careers. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Millie Bobby Brown, who was just 11 years old when she started playing Eleven, described the experience as incredibly surreal.
The actress explained that it didn’t truly feel real to her that the show was ending until the night before the final day of filming. She said, “It had to be right in front of me for it to sink in – like, ‘Oh my God, this is actually happening!’ A year before, I didn’t dwell on it because it felt like we had plenty of time left. But then, the night before we finished filming, it really hit me.”
Look, she really laid it all out for me. She was on her way home when it hit her – it was over. She confessed she literally had to pull over, sit in her car for a good half hour, and just breathe before she felt safe enough to drive. It was a really raw, honest moment, and she described it exactly like that – needing that time to compose herself before getting behind the wheel.
Millie Bobby Brown shared that Stranger Things not only helped her career, but also led to a very special friendship with Noah Schnapp. Their bond is so strong that Schnapp is the godfather to Brown’s child, whom she welcomed earlier this year with her husband, Jake Bongiovi.
Finn Wolfhard found saying goodbye to his castmates the most difficult part of finishing the show. After years of working closely together and experiencing the challenges of growing up in the spotlight, they had become very close. He explained that the thought of not seeing them regularly anymore made the final day of filming especially emotional. He said, “Saying goodbye to everyone and knowing I won’t see them in the same setting again was really hard. The day after we finished filming was incredibly upsetting for me.”
Finn Wolfhard, who played Mike Wheeler, admitted he didn’t fully accept the show was ending until filming wrapped. He described the end of Stranger Things as both sad and heartwarming. While the show is finished, he feels incredibly close to his co-stars, considering them family, and knows that bond will last a lifetime, no matter what the future holds. He explained that while their daily routine of working together is over, their connection remains strong, and they continue to see each other often, making the experience feel like it’s not truly over.
Caleb McLaughlin, who played Lucas Sinclair on Stranger Things, realized the show was nearing its end during the fourth season. He described a strange mix of emotions – sadness that something he’d been involved with for so long was finishing, but relief that it would get a proper conclusion instead of being abruptly canceled like many other shows. He said realizing it was ‘the last time looking forward to a new season’ made him reflect on how much the show had been a part of his life and that it would actually have a definitive ending.
All episodes of Stranger Things can now be streamed on Netflix.
