December 31st marks a significant change for Peacock. For the past five years, the streaming service has been the exclusive home to WWE’s extensive video library, but that deal ends on New Year’s Eve. Fans have been wondering where to find classic WWE matches and events next, and now things are becoming much clearer.
WWE is planning to move its video library to YouTube. Sources at WWE say they expect to gradually release most of their content on their official YouTube channels, and they’ve been discussing the financial aspects of this change.
WWE likely has a good agreement with Google, given how much WWE content is available on YouTube. Official WWE channels on the platform include WWE, WWE NXT, WCW, and the WWE Vault.
WWE’s Time on Peacock Is Coming to an End
In 2021, WWE ended its own streaming service, WWE Network, and partnered with Peacock in a $1 billion deal. Now, fans can watch shows like Raw, SmackDown, and NXT on Peacock, along with special events that used to be pay-per-views, now called Premium Live Events. All of WWE’s past content also moved to the Peacock platform.
WWE is expanding its reach by partnering with Netflix and ESPN on Peacock. Raw episodes will stream live every Monday night, marking a growth in Netflix’s live sports offerings. Plus, fans can now watch Premium Live Events on the ESPN app.
WWE Continues Its Dominance on YouTube
WWE is planning to expand its presence on YouTube by adding more of its video library to the platform. Their main YouTube channel already has a huge audience of 112 million subscribers, and channels focused on WCW and NXT are also very popular. One particularly successful channel, WWE Vault, has gained 3.4 million subscribers.
WWE Vault is a treasure trove of wrestling content, offering everything from podcasts and documentaries to classic matches and footage from older promotions like AWA and WCW. Whether you’re a longtime fan wanting to revisit favorite moments or a new fan discovering wrestling history, the WWE Vault has something for everyone.
WWE effectively uses its YouTube channels to showcase the best moments from its weekly shows, Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. Fans can also find complete matches and featured content on their favorite wrestlers and personalities. Moving the entire WWE video library to YouTube would likely attract even more subscribers, as it would become the sole destination for classic content.
Beyond showing the series Raw, Netflix is the exclusive home for the entire WWE video library outside of the United States, including in countries like the UK, Europe, and South America. This became possible when WWE partnered with Netflix in January. In the US, you can still watch SmackDown on the USA Network and NXT on the CW.
