I’ve always been a big movie fan, but for most of my life, I steered clear of horror films. That all changed a few years ago when I saw Scream – it’s a truly great horror movie! While I still get easily scared, I’m now much more willing to give horror movies a chance, and looking at what’s coming out in 2025 has made me appreciate the genre even more.
Here are the six horror movies from 2025 that I really enjoyed!

Sinners Is One Of The Most Beautiful Movies I’ve Seen All Year
Our review of Sinners gives this film a full five stars, and it’s currently TopMob’s pick for the best movie of the year. Though it doesn’t fit neatly into the horror genre, director Ryan Coogler crafted something truly haunting, emotional, and beautiful. In fact, every element of the movie is exceptionally well done.
The music in this film really stood out to me. Since blues music is central to the story, the composer, Ludwig Göransson, brilliantly used and reimagined the genre to enhance the narrative—it’s about a blues club attacked by vampires who are attracted to the sound. It’s a truly unique, powerful, and emotional score unlike anything I’ve experienced before.
The film is a masterpiece, blending incredible direction by Ryan Coogler, breathtaking visuals from Autumn Durald Arkapaw, and powerful acting from Michael B. Jordan, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, and others. It’s a truly profound and unsettling movie that skillfully incorporates elements of horror.

I Cannot Stop Thinking About Weapons
Before seeing the movie Weapons, I only knew our review had given it a perfect five-star rating and that some viewers had a strong, almost physical reaction to it. I’m glad that was all I knew going in! Experiencing Zach Cregger’s film with no expectations and letting the story unfold naturally was incredibly captivating, and it’s stayed with me for months.
I was incredibly tense throughout the entire movie—my jaw actually ached when it ended! Afterwards, I couldn’t stop thinking about the unsettling story, with its themes of Aunt Gladys, the mysterious soup cans, and the missing children. Director Cregger really delivered a suspenseful masterpiece, and the humor he added made it even more effective. Overall, Weapons was a truly mind-bending film, and I’ll be searching for similar experiences for a long time.

Companion’s Twists Were Next Level
Okay, I have to say it – I genuinely think Companion is really good, but with a little secret weapon! Knowing the first big twist beforehand completely changes how you experience it, because then you can really appreciate what Sophie Thatcher is doing. And honestly, even after that first reveal, there are still surprises waiting for you, which makes it even better.
This movie about a couple’s weekend trip was full of surprises. Just when I thought I had figured things out, something unexpected would happen. It kept me guessing throughout, and the central idea involving technology is best experienced firsthand. And the ending? Let’s just say it was incredibly intense, disturbing, and shocking!

Heart Eyes Proved The Slashers And Rom-Coms Do Go Together
I really love a good romantic comedy, and I’ve also started enjoying horror slasher films. So, a movie that combines both of those genres, especially one directed by Josh Ruben, sounds perfect to me!
Similar to the movie Scream, Heart Eyes centers around a masked killer targeting couples on Valentine’s Day. The story follows Ally, played by Olivia Holt, and Mason Gooding as Jay, who aren’t actually a couple, but pretend to be in order to mislead Ally’s ex-boyfriend. This deception quickly puts them in the killer’s sights, leading to a fun and suspenseful romance as they struggle to survive.
Heart Eyes is a really fun movie that cleverly blends romance, comedy, and horror. It’s genuinely one of the most enjoyable films I’ve seen all year.

Frankenstein Is One Of The Most Visually Stunning Films Of 2025
I was completely amazed by Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which was the first time I’d seen the Mary Shelley story adapted for the screen. Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi were fantastic as Victor and the Creature, but what really impressed me was the film’s beautiful and immersive world.
Guillermo del Toro really brought this story to life with a stunning and elaborate gothic world. I still can’t forget the haunting image of Victor’s tower collapsing, or the cozy farm where the Creature found peace. The beautiful visuals completely drew me into this classic, spooky story, and I absolutely loved it.

Hell Of A Summer Is One Hell Of A Good Time
Hell of a Summer is a promising slasher film that marks the feature directorial debut of Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard (known from Stranger Things). The two also co-wrote the script and star in the movie as campers terrorized by a killer.
Bryk and Wolfhard nailed a really fun and suspenseful tone with this film. The cast, including Fred Hechinger from The White Lotus and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai of Reservation Dogs, delivered fantastic performances. They assembled a perfect group of rising stars who expertly balanced the movie’s humor and horror as they portrayed kids facing a dangerous situation at camp.
When I left this movie, I was thinking about how excited I was to see what these guys do next.

Okay, so I just finished revisiting six of my all-time favorite horror movies, and honestly, they’re all over the place in the best way possible. The only real connection is that they genuinely scared – and thrilled – me. Each one brought something totally unique to the table, and it really reminded me just how incredibly diverse and imaginative the horror genre can be. It just deepened my love for it! Heading into 2026, I’m really excited to see what surprises the genre has in store – even for a self-proclaimed scaredy-cat like me. It consistently proves why it’s so compelling!
