Apple TV’s Your Friends and Neighbors has a much lighter tone than Ozark. It doesn’t feature the same level of intense violence or grim storylines. However, both shows share similar themes, particularly in how they depict ordinary people getting involved in criminal activity.
Similar to Marty Byrde in Ozark, Andrew Cooper from Your Friends and Neighbors turns to criminal activity solely to support his family.
Cooper starts out trying to provide for himself and his family, but quickly finds himself leading a risky double life. His illegal activities soon threaten to affect his personal relationships, much like the struggles faced by Marty Byrde. Surprisingly, Cooper’s crimes end up giving him a chance to repair his damaged family bonds.
Near the end of Your Friends and Neighbors, the show suggests that Cooper’s former girlfriend, Mel, might also become involved in Marty’s illegal activities, similar to what happened with Marty’s wife.
Your Friends and Neighbors stands out as a crime thriller with a strong undercurrent of social commentary, criticizing wealth inequality and the lifestyles of the well-off. Because of its similar storytelling style, it’s a great choice for anyone who enjoyed the Netflix series Ozark.
Your Friends & Neighbors Season 2’s Release Ensures It Repeats 1 Of Ozark’s Biggest Strengths
With so many shows now released through streaming services, long breaks between seasons have become common. But these delays can actually hurt a show in the long run, as viewers lose interest and the buzz dies down. Luckily, Ozark avoided this problem for the most part, especially when it first came out, by consistently releasing new seasons at a reasonable pace.
It took a while for the last part of Ozark to appear on Netflix following season 3, but season 2 was released just over a year after the show first premiered.
The show Ozark successfully created a compelling storyline that kept viewers hooked, and Your Friends and Neighbors aims to do the same. It’s returning to Apple TV on April 3, 2026, just under a year after its first season aired. Hopefully, it will continue to improve with each season, just like Ozark did.
