Arnold Schwarzenegger Eyes Return to Iconic Franchise – But It’s Not What You Expect!

Arnold Schwarzenegger gained movie stardom through “The Terminator,” a film that spawned a series, albeit with more below-average than exceptional entries. Remarkably, this franchise persists in the contemporary era. It’s likely we’ll see more Terminator films in the future, and Arnold himself might reappear in them. Nevertheless, it seems Arnold is looking to revisit his initial franchise—Conan.

In my film critic days, I had the pleasure of watching Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic ‘Conan’ movies, particularly ‘Conan the Destroyer’. The film hinted at a sequel, but unfortunately, it never materialized. However, during an interview with Collider, the man himself expressed his continued enthusiasm for revisiting this story. Arnold believes that with the right creative team, there’s a compelling narrative waiting to be told.

Occasionally, I find myself yearning for additional Conan sequels, as I believe with the right filmmaker and scriptwriter, we could create an outstanding series that would further explore King Conan and related themes.

In the follow-up to the Conan film, it’s hinted that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character will eventually ascend to the throne. This development offers an opportunity for modern storytelling with Conan as king, which could prove appealing given the current trend of legacy sequels. As a result, Conan seems like a promising candidate for a movie in this genre.

Over the course of time, efforts have been made to produce a third “Conan” film, often referred to as “King Conan”. There have been whispers that this movie was actually being produced. Yet, despite these efforts, for one reason or another, these projects have stalled and failed to come to fruition.

As a follower, I’ve found that one of the major hurdles we’ve encountered is the matter of rights. Specifically, it’s not clear who currently holds the rights to the character of Conan, whether it’s the estate of Robert E. Howard or if an individual or studio owns it. To legally move forward with our King Conan movie project, Arnold and his team will need to negotiate a deal first, before we can even begin drafting a script realistically.

Given the numerous films that have had sequels long after their initial release, it’s surprising we haven’t seen a renewed interest in creating a new Conan film lately. Fortunately, there’s no need for immediate action since Arnold Schwarzenegger could still make a new Conan movie a few years down the line.

As a fan who adored the initial two “Conan” films and watched them countless times during my childhood, I’m eagerly anticipating a revival of this franchise. Given Arnold Schwarzenegger’s continued acting prowess, portraying an elderly Conan could potentially yield a more captivating storyline than what might have been offered years ago.
