As a big movie fan, I just heard some news that’s a bit of a bummer. One of my favorite action thrillers, Tenet, is leaving Netflix at the end of the month, so if you want to watch it on the platform, you’ll need to do so soon!
Starting January 1, 2026, the movie Tenet will no longer be available on Netflix. Released in 2020, the film features a cast including John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Michael Caine. It tells the story of a secret agent who investigates strange occurrences linked to objects moving backward in time, aiming to prevent a future attack.
With its incredibly ambitious science fiction story and the fact that Christopher Nolan spent over five years writing the script, Tenet is a truly remarkable film. Although production was slowed down by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was released in 2020 and still did fairly well in theaters. The film earned $365 million globally on a $205 million budget, making it one of the year’s biggest hits, though it didn’t quite make enough to cover its costs.
Despite its complexity, Tenet was a major box office success. However, when it first came out, it sparked a lot of debate among both critics and viewers. While many found its time-bending plot entertaining, others struggled to follow it. Over time, as more people have had a chance to understand Christopher Nolan’s vision, the film has generally been received more favorably.
I’ve been following the reviews for this movie, and it seems like people are really intrigued! Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 70% score from critics – a lot of them are calling it a beautiful, complex film that you really have to think about. But honestly, audiences seem to love it even more! Over 5,000 fans have reviewed it on the site, and a whopping 76% of them gave it a positive rating. It sounds like it’s a real winner!
Like many of Christopher Nolan’s films, Tenet earned recognition from major award ceremonies. It was nominated for an Academy Award for both Production Design and Visual Effects, ultimately winning the Visual Effects prize. The film also received other honors, including a BAFTA award and a Critics’ Choice Award, and was nominated for a Golden Globe.
Nolan’s The Odyssey Adaptation May Be His Most Ambitious Project Yet
Christopher Nolan plans to continue his filmmaking career in 2026 with a new movie called The Odyssey. Matt Damon will play Odysseus, the hero returning home after the Trojan War, and will face legendary creatures like a Cyclops, Sirens, and the powerful witch Circe along the way.

The new film boasts a remarkable cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, among others. It’s Nolan’s most ambitious project yet, costing $250 million to make, and it’s the first he’s filmed entirely using IMAX 70mm cameras. Currently titled The Odyssey, the movie is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
Christopher Nolan’s Tenet leaves Netflix on Jan. 1, 2026.
