HBO Max has unveiled Nick Frost, known for his roles in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, as everyone’s beloved Rubeus Hagrid in the upcoming Harry Potter series. Robbie Coltrane, who originally played the character in all eight movies of the Harry Potter film series by Warner Bros., has passed away.
Following a recent reveal by the streamer, we now have our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as the freshly announced Harry Potter in the new TV series, signaling that filming for this much-anticipated adaptation has officially started. The HBO original is slated to premiere in 2027.
Who is in the Harry Potter cast?
In addition to Frost and McLaughlin, the cast of Harry Potter will include newcomers Alastair Stout playing Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton portraying Hermione Granger. Also joining the team are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer taking on Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu for Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby in the role of Vernon Dursley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn portraying Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni for Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
The HBO version of the story is penned and overseen as executive producer by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (previously known for Killing Eve and Succession). Mark Mylod will be directing this project. This adaptation aims to stay true to the cherished Harry Potter book series, boasting a dynamic and gifted ensemble to ignite a fresh wave of fanbase enthusiasm. Joining Mylod as executive producers are J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, who has been associated with the Harry Potter franchise for a long time. HBO is collaborating on this production with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
