Char’s Counterattack was the first film in a long-running series and remains incredibly popular. Even now, decades after it came out, new products like Gunpla model kits are still being made based on it.
A brand new model kit will debut at the GUNDAM SIDE-F complex before becoming available elsewhere. This kit recreates a mecha from the classic movie Char’s Counterattack and is being released almost 40 years after the film’s original release. Packed with weapons and accessories, it’s designed to represent the forces of Neo Zeon.
Bandai’s New Gundam: Char’s Counterattack Gunpla Model Kit Gets Special Early Release
The HG 1/144 Geara Doga (Heavy Armed Specification) model kit is designed after the Geara Doga as it appears in the movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. It’s based on designs from the “Mobile Suit Variations” series, which takes inspiration from the mecha featured in the film. Even though it’s a standard kit, it comes with a surprisingly large and detailed set of weapons.
This kit comes with several accessories, including a newly designed backpack with fuel tanks and adjustable stabilizers. The antenna on the head is poseable, and the single eye can move. As if that weren’t enough, the massive Lange Bruno Gun makes a striking impression. The gun’s barrel has a realistic texture, giving it a battle-worn feel. It even comes with lead wires, a resin belt to attach it to the mobile suit, and a folding feature for storage.
The Geara Doga isn’t just equipped with the Lange Bruno Gun. It can also fight effectively up close with its Beam Axe, which comes with special effect parts. Plus, it includes Sturm Faust grenade launchers and two types of magazines connected by linking tape.

As a huge Gundam fan, I have to say this new Geara Doga is incredible! Bandai’s HG 1/144 kit really captures the power of the Neo Zeon mobile suit. If you’re lucky enough to be near the GUNDAM SIDE-F complex in Fukuoka, you can actually pre-order it now for around $25. Otherwise, we’ll all get our chance starting January 10, 2026 – it’s amazing to think it’s coming almost 40 years after it first appeared in 1988! It’s a stunning action figure and totally lives up to the Geara Doga’s reputation.
