The duo knows how to delight their fans during the holidays and recently released a new trailer for their upcoming Netflix action thriller. They shared a special video online, giving fans a sneak peek at the movie, which will be available for streaming on January 16, 2026.
The video starts with Damon announcing they’re sharing exclusive, never-before-seen footage from The Rip. Affleck playfully joked he was only going to give everyone socks, but of course, they ended up showing the footage – delivering socks to a worldwide audience would have been impractical! The clip is a new, exciting preview for the movie, hinting at a central theme: you can’t trust anyone, a point also made clear in the film’s description.
When Miami police find millions of dollars hidden in an abandoned building, suspicion quickly grows within the team, and everyone starts to question each other.
The movie boasts a fantastic cast, including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Scott Adkins, Teyana Taylor, and Steven Yeun. It’s directed by Joe Carnahan, known for his work on The A-Team, and he’s shared the story behind how the film came to be.
My novel, ‘The Rip,’ was born from a close friend’s experiences – both as a father and as a leader in the Miami Dade police narcotics division. It’s inspired by his life, and also by my fondness for the character-driven, relationship-focused police thrillers of the 1970s that I grew up loving.
‘The Rip’ Can Be Another Huge Success for Affleck and Damon
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are known for their incredibly successful working relationship in Hollywood over the past few decades, and it looks like they’ll be collaborating again on a new film called The Rip. In an interview with GQ about the project, Damon shared:
We always aim to create films that we personally enjoy, and that’s the same approach we take with our acting choices. It often frustrates our creative team because they want a clear direction, but our answer is always simple: we’re looking for a great movie.
Both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are currently enjoying major success in their careers, and that looks set to continue. Damon will soon star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, which is expected to be a strong contender for awards. The movie, scheduled for release next summer, features Damon as Odysseus alongside a remarkable cast including Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, and others.
