The trailer for the new Street Fighter movie came out earlier this month, and people have been sharing a lot of reactions online. I personally loved it, and while others seem to be enjoying the direction the movie is taking, I’ve also seen some really strange opinions. I feel like I need to address them!
I had a good feeling about the new Predator movie, despite the negative reactions to the trailer – and I was right! I feel the same way about Street Fighter, so I want to share my perspective and clear up any misunderstandings.

I’ve Heard People Say That The 1994 Movie Looked Better, And No. Just No.
I’ve seen some people online say the 1994 Street Fighter movie is better than this one, and I strongly disagree. While I get that some people enjoy the first live-action Street Fighter film, any true fan knows it strayed too far from the original game’s story and characters.
Okay, so look, as a movie fan, I have to admit the 1994 Street Fighter movie is… something. It’s wild to see Guile as the main guy – and that he’s Belgian, of all things! – while Ryu and Ken are basically just there. And Dhalsim being a doctor? Seriously?! It’s definitely entertaining, in that “so bad it’s good” way, kind of like Mortal Kombat Annihilation. But let’s be real, it’s not good good. It’s just…bad good, you know?
Honestly, I disagree with anyone saying the original movie looked better than this new trailer. I just don’t see it that way.

People Have Also Complained About Guile’s Hair, But Hello! That’s What Guile’s Hair Looks Like!
Let’s revisit the character of Guile. In the first film, he was famously played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, who I actually enjoy – I recently shared how much I love his movie Timecop.
Let’s be honest, Jean-Claude Van Damme just didn’t fit the role of Guile. He didn’t bother to lose his accent, he wore the wrong kind of hat – a blue beret instead of Guile’s signature military cap – and, most noticeably, he didn’t have Guile’s iconic flat-top hairstyle. Or, if he did, it wasn’t very convincing.
You know who’s been cast? Cody Rhodes as Guile! But honestly, all I’m seeing online are complaints about his hair. It’s kind of ridiculous – that’s exactly how Guile’s hair looks in the games! Seriously, internet, can we decide? Do we want the movie to be faithful to the source material, or not? Let’s be consistent!

People Have Also Said That The Movie Looks Silly, But Street Fighter IS Silly!
What really bothers me is people complaining that the new movie looks “silly.” But honestly, have they ever even played Street Fighter? Because the game itself is totally over-the-top and ridiculous!
I understand where people are coming from. They seem to think Street Fighter needs to be this incredibly intense and dramatic experience. While we’ve had serious takes on Street Fighter before, like Assassin’s Fist and the animated movie, I’m pretty sure most viewers just want a fun, lighthearted movie with characters they know from the game.
It’s important to remember that the internet doesn’t reflect everyone’s opinions, and just because something is popular with some fans doesn’t mean everyone feels the same way. This new trailer looks enjoyable and lighthearted, which most fans of Street Fighter will likely appreciate. And honestly, what’s wrong with a fun, silly Street Fighter movie?
I’m really excited about the new Street Fighter movie! It’s coming out in theaters on October 16, 2026, and I can’t wait to see it. What are your thoughts? I’d love to know what you think!
