In the latest season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” Sweet Dee, played by Kaitlin Olson, grapples with sorrow over a cake-related matter. Fans of the actress are eagerly anticipating her reappearance on ABC for Season 2 of “High Potential.” Since the first season finale left many plot threads dangling, there’s much to resolve when it returns, and there will be plenty to discuss regarding the significant cast changes once new episodes air in the 2025 TV lineup.
Recently, “High Potential” has brought on board Steve Howey from “Shameless,” who will play the new precinct captain. This suggests that Garret Dillahunt may not return. Besides Dillhunt, it seems there might be more cast members leaving, and I must admit, I’m quite disheartened by this news, even though the latest addition to the cast is quite promising.
No More Tommy? JD Pardo Lands New Netflix Show
Although many fans of the series High Potential appear eager for Morgan and her quasi-partner Karadec, portrayed by the captivating Daniel Sunjata, to develop a romantic relationship, I personally belong to the group who fervently hopes that the show’s creative team steers clear of workplace romances in the early stages. If it manages to build up enough tension for a Bones-like twist later on, then so be it.
Initially, I had high expectations that actor JD Pardo, known from “Mayans M.C.”, would play a larger and more significant role in the show’s second season. Unfortunately, due to his thriving career, it seems less likely he will be a regular cast member, which somewhat dampens my enthusiasm regarding this news.
Over the last few days, it has been announced that Pardo is set to join the star-studded cast for the upcoming Netflix series, Trinity. Alongside Pardo, established actors Marcia Gay Harden, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Richard Madden are already confirmed. The plot revolves around a Navy officer (portrayed by Gugu Mbatha-Raw), whose romantic involvement with the tech genius Secretary of Defense (Richard Madden) takes an unexpected turn as she uncovers potential links to a vast conspiracy.
In the latest series, JD Pardo will assume the role of a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, characteristically named “Tom.” It seems as though the Netflix production is playing coy by transferring the actor while maintaining his name. On the other hand, it might simply be that this Tom from ‘High Potential’ never attended nursing school at all.

High Potential Adds Mekhi Phifer To Season 2
Mekhi Phifer, known for his exceptional performances, will reappear at the LAPD headquarters when High Potential comes back on screen. According to Variety, his role is that of a “recurring guest star,” indicating he’ll make more than one appearance, possibly even throughout most of the episodes.
At present, specifics are somewhat limited. However, Phifer is set to join the plot as a character who interacts with Major Crimes. Whether he’ll be an upstanding citizen or morally ambiguous remains uncertain. It’s confirmed, though, that he will share screen time with Kaitlin Olson and the main cast.
In the initial phase of his career, Phifer primarily worked in films. However, he solidified his position as a television personality with his seven-season stint on ER, and subsequent notable roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Lie To Me, House of Lies, Truth Be Told, Love, Victor, and more recently, an episode in Season 24 of Law & Order, which was broadcast in February.
It appears unlikely that Phifer will take on another possible love interest role for Morgan in future episodes, but there’s always a chance that this might change once the episodes are aired.
To this point, it has been revealed that Season 2 will explore the background of Morgan and Ludo’s relationship, while also hinting at David Giuntoli’s character as the enigmatic game master villain who could potentially share a connection with Morgan. It remains uncertain whether Phifer’s character will become entangled in these developments; time will tell.
In the autumn season, the series with great promise, “High Potential,” is coming back to ABC for its second season. Right now, you can watch all the episodes from season 1 on Hulu if you have a subscription.
