Netflix Cancels YA Drama ‘Olympo’ After One Season

Netflix has canceled the Spanish-language sports drama Olympo after just one season. While Netflix hasn’t given a specific reason, it likely wasn’t about money, as the show’s realistic storyline didn’t require expensive production. Olympo initially performed well, reaching the Top 10 in several countries, but it didn’t become a massive hit. Critics gave the show a 43% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences rated it higher at 75%, suggesting the show’s mixed reviews may have contributed to its cancellation.

TVLine confirmed news of the series’ cancellation. Netflix officially described Olympo:

Spain’s top athletes hone their skills at the Pirineos High Performance Center, including Amaia, the demanding captain of the synchronized swimming team who strives for perfection. But when her teammate and close friend, Núria, suddenly surpasses her, Amaia begins to suspect something is helping some athletes perform better. These dedicated competitors, who have spent years pushing themselves to the absolute limit, are now forced to confront a difficult question: how much are they willing to sacrifice to win?

The show featured a talented cast including Nira Osahia, Agustín Della Corte, Nuno Gallego, Andy Duato, Najwa Khliwa, Juan Perales, Martí Cordero, Jesús Rubio, and Melina Matthews.

Netflix’s 2025 Casualties

Olympo wasn’t the only streaming show that ended in 2025; Netflix canceled several series that year. While new shows like Territory, The Residence, Pulse, The Waterfront, and Too Much debuted, 2025 also marked the end for those titles. More unexpectedly, The Recruit and FUBAR were both canceled after just two seasons, which came as a surprise given their popularity and the people involved.

The cancellation of Boots after just two months on Netflix has sparked a lot of discussion. Unlike Olympo, which had a large cast and included LGBTQ+ stories, Boots was based on the true story of Greg Cope White and his experiences as a gay man serving in the military. Its cancellation was particularly disappointing because the show had received positive reviews and offered important representation.

This year will likely see the conclusion of one of Netflix’s most popular shows, Stranger Things. While the series is ending, it won’t be cancelled – the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, were able to finish the story the way they envisioned.
