‘I Know How Lucky I Am’: Amanda Seyfried Has Two Movies Out This December, And It’s Funny How Wildly Different They Are

Being an actor is rarely predictable, and it’s not just about short-term contracts. Some actors get typecast, but others jump between wildly different roles – one month they might be in a western, the next in a sci-fi film. A perfect example of this is currently in theaters with Amanda Seyfried, who stars in both The Testament Of Ann Lee and The Housemaid, two films that couldn’t be more dissimilar.

Jeff McCobb from TopMob interviewed the actress last week during a virtual press event. Towards the end of their conversation, she mentioned that two of her films were being released around the same time, which could create some competition. When asked about appearing in so many movies lately, Seyfried responded,

It’s funny how people notice you more when you’re in a lot of movies. They tell me I’m ‘everywhere,’ but that doesn’t feel true! I actually haven’t been home much lately, which is nice, and hearing someone acknowledge that feels good.

Mona Fastvold’s film, The Testament Of Ann Lee, stars Amanda Seyfried as Ann Lee, the founder of the Shakers, a unique Christian group. The movie follows Ann Lee and her followers as they establish their beliefs and journey to America, hoping to expand their community. Initially, Seyfried wasn’t sure she understood the role when she first received the script and even suggested other actresses, but her dedicated performance is now receiving some of the best reviews of her career.

Without Amanda Seyfried, it would be hard to connect The Housemaid to other films. In this Paul Feig-directed movie, based on Freida McFadden’s novel, Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, a wealthy and unpredictable woman. She hires a former convict (Sydney Sweeney) as her housemaid. Nina is sometimes kind and charming, but often cruel and explosive, pulling the housemaid into a complicated situation filled with hidden secrets and a disturbing mystery.

Both films really highlight Amanda Seyfried’s acting ability, and although she’s pleased with how they turned out, she also confessed that making them left her feeling a little tired. She continued by saying…

I’m really proud of two recent films where I played very different characters. It’s amazing that both projects came together so well, and that people are still discussing them. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been involved, but it’s also been a bit exhausting.

You can now see The Housemaid in movie theaters – it opened in third place at the box office. And The Testament Of Ann Lee will be shown in select theaters starting tomorrow, December 25th, with plans for a wider release next month.
